Interferon regulatory factor 2 protects mice from lethal viral neuroinvasion. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The host responds to virus infection by activating type I interferon (IFN) signaling leading to expression of IFN-stimulated genes (ISGs). Dysregulation of the IFN response results in inflammatory diseases and chronic infections.

Viruses and the cellular RNA decay machinery. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The ability to control cellular and viral gene expression, either globally or selectively, is central to a successful viral infection, and it is also crucial for the host to respond and eradicate pathogens.

[Morphological study of a mixed alphavirus infection].

open access: yesVoprosy virusologii, 1982
In combined paired cultivation of 8 Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis virus, multiploid virions formed in 17.8% of cases. Five clones with this effect were used in mixed infections with clones of Semliki Forest and Sindbis viruses. In these infections changes in virions of the virus progeny were observed in 20% and 16.6%, respectively.

Semliki Forest viiruse replikaasivalgu nsP1 uurimine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Väitekirja elektrooniline versioon ei sisalda publikatsioone.Semliki Forest viirus kuulub alfaviiruste perekonda sugukonnas Togaviridae. Alfaviirused on olulised patogeenid ning põhjustavad erinevaid vaevusi nii loomadele kui ka inimestele.

Anti-ganglioside antibodies in patients with Zika virus infection-associated Guillain-Barré Syndrome in Brazil. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Zika virus infection is associated with the development of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), a neurological autoimmune disorder caused by immune recognition of gangliosides and other components at nerve membranes.

Alphavirus Infection of the CNS: Entry, Dissemination, and Neurodegeneration

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Molecular & Clinical Medicine, 2015
Alphaviruses most often associated with neuroinvasive disease are limited to the Americas and include strains of EEEV, VEEV, and WEEV. The process of alphavirus entry into the CNS of infected vertebrates following challenge is not well-understood. It is thought that virus entry into the CNS depends on the inoculation route.

Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus non-structural protein 3 dictates superinfection exclusion in mammalian cells

open access: yesnpj Viruses
Superinfection exclusion (SIE) prevents secondary infections of already infected cells. Arthritogenic alphaviruses induce SIE via early proteolytical cleavage of replicase precursor by non-structural protein 2 (nsP2).

Unraveling the complex interplay: immunopathology and immune evasion strategies of alphaviruses with emphasis on neurological implications

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology
Arthritogenic alphaviruses pose a significant public health concern due to their ability to cause joint inflammation, with emerging evidence of potential neurological consequences.

Baseline Seroprevalence of Arboviruses in Liberia Using a Multiplex IgG Immunoassay

open access: yesTropical Medicine and Infectious Disease
Insect-borne viruses may account for a significant proportion of non-malaria and non-bacterial febrile illnesses in Liberia. Although the presence of many arthropod vectors has been documented, the collective burden of arbovirus infections and baseline ...
