Sustainable protein alternatives
Trends in Food Science & Technology, 2021Abstract Background Fake meat industry is expected to grow and to be worth $140 billion by 2030. Alternative protein can be produced by plant or microbe. Animal-free dairy protein can be produced by fermentation in microflora. Scope and approach In order to improve the real production, many companies are focusing on fermentation for animal-free ...

Alternative protein sorting pathways
2000The term "nonclassical protein targeting" has been used to describe those pathways that have been recently discovered and differ mechanistically from the more studied "classical pathways." Because this nomenclature is rather arbitrary in terms of cellular relevance, we have chosen to group these protein sorting mechanisms under the heading "alternative

An alternative view of protein fold space
Proteins: Structure, Function, and Genetics, 2000Comparing and subsequently classifying protein structures information has received significant attention concurrent with the increase in the number of experimentally derived 3-dimensional structures. Classification schemes have focused on biological function found within protein domains and on structure classification based on topology.

Binding proteins from alternative scaffolds
Journal of Immunological Methods, 2004The use of so-called protein scaffolds for the generation of novel binding proteins via combinatorial engineering has recently emerged as a powerful alternative to natural or recombinant antibodies. This concept requires an extraordinary stable protein architecture tolerating multiple substitutions or insertions at the primary structural level.

Alternative splicing in the ENCODE protein complement
2008An accurate description of current scientific developments in the field of bioinformatics and computational implementation is presented by research of the BioSapiens Network of Excellence. Bioinformatics is essential for annotating the structure and function of genes, proteins and the analysis of complete genomes and to molecular biology and ...

Alternative interactions of the SV40 a protein with DNA
Virology, 1981Abstract We have characterized the DNA binding properties of SV40 A protein (T antigen) from permissive cells. The viral protein protects 110- to 115-, 60- to 65-, 40- to 45-, and 30- to 35-bp fragments of SV40 DNA from an excess of DNase 1. The 60- to 65-bp fragment extends some 30–35 by to either side of the Bgl I site at the origin of replication.

The Effect of Alternatives to Formocresol on Antigenicity of Proteins
Journal of Dental Research, 1985As part of an overall evaluation of possible substitutes for the pulpotomy agent formocresol, this study was initiated to compare the antigenicity of the reaction products of protein with formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde, or dimethylsuberimidate (DMS).Rabbits were injected with rabbit serum albumin (RSA) which had been treated with one of the following ...
