Investigation on some factors affecting crack formation in high resistance aluminum alloys [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Aluminum alloys having good mechanical properties are Al-Zn-Mg alloys (7xxx) and Al-Cu-Li alloys (Weldalite®). These alloys may be subjected to stress corrosion cracking.

Can Ti‐Based MXenes Serve as Solid Lubricants for Brake Applications? A Tribological Study

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the first implementation of Ti‐based MXenes materials in brake pad friction composite material. The resulting composite material exhibits a 48% reduction in the wear rate; alongside significant improvements are observed for thermal and mechanical properties.

Study on Improvement of Casting Conditions for Some Aluminum Bronze Alloys [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering and Technology Journal, 2007
Two types of aluminium bronze alloys have been studied to determine theproper methods of melting and casting in two different conditions; with treatingmaterials as (Albral 2, Logas 50 and deoxidizing tube E3) and without anddetermine the effects of these

Designing wear-resistant high-zinc aluminium alloys with high strength and ductility

open access: yesCommunications Materials
Compared with costly wear-resistant alloys such as bronze and zinc-based alloys, high-zinc aluminium alloys present a promising alternative. Usually, strength and ductility in metals are inversely related, posing the same bottleneck in high-zinc ...

Aluminium/zirconium alloys obtained by Al underpotential deposition onto Zr from low temperature AlCl3+NaCl molten salts [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Serbian Chemical Society, 2019
Contrary to the widely accepted hypothesis that it is not possible, aluminium underpotential deposition (UPD) onto zirconium from a low temperature (200, 250 and 300°C) equimolar chloroaluminate melt was recorded.

Identification of intermetallic precipitates formed during re-solidification of brazed aluminium alloys [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This study shows that Fe and Mn bearing phases in Al–Si alloys containing a low level of Fe and Mn are essentially cubic greek small letter alpha-Al(Fe, Mn)Si with Im3 space group and δ-AlFeSi which is observed with both tetragonal and orthorhombic ...

Mechanically Deposited Wear‐Resistant Amorphous Zr55Cu30Al10Ni5 Coatings

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mechanically deposited from glassy ribbons, the Zr55Cu30Al10Ni5 amorphous coating formed a hard, continuous layer on AISI 1010 steel, tripling substrate hardness, lowering friction, and reducing wear. Despite its rough surface, it showed friction and wear behavior comparable to the crystalline alloy, highlighting its strong potential as a durable ...

A multidisciplinary approach to study precipitation kinetics and hardening in an Al-4Cu (wt. %) alloy

open access: yes, 2018
A multidisciplinary approach is presented to analyse the precipitation process in a model Al-Cu alloy. Although this topic has been extensively studied in the past, most of the investigations are focussed either on transmission electron microscopy or on ...
