ABSTRACT The name Amaranthus tortuosus, a species described by Hornemann in 1819, is currently treated in different ways, either as an accepted name, as a synonym of A. dubius or A. hybridus s.str., or as an unplaced name. In order to clarify its application, we reassessed its taxonomic identity within the genus Amaranthus.
