Enhancing the Palatability of Fibrous and Overmatured Vegetables Using Papaya as a Tenderizer [PDF]

open access: yesMadras Agricultural Journal
The present study explored the potential of raw matured papaya (Carica papaya) as a natural tenderizer to enhance the palatability of over-matured vegetables, which are often discarded due to fibrous texture and low consumer acceptability.

Predispersal seed predation of Amaranthus spp. and Chenopodium album (L) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Field studies were conducted during 1997 and 1998 to determine the role of predispersal weed seed predators in corn fields and to investigate the influence of corn row width and planting density on predispersal weed seed predation levels.

Resistance of Amaranthus Spp. to the Green Peach Aphid (Hemiptera: Aphididae)

open access: yesJournal of Economic Entomology, 2020
AbstractThe green peach aphid [Myzus persicae (Sulzer)] is an important pest of amaranth grown for leaf consumption (i.e., leafy amaranth) in the tropics. Aphids reduce the amount of fresh leaf yield of amaranth and the value of leafy amaranth as aphid-infested leaves are not marketable.

Assessment of the morphological and molecular diversity in Amaranthus spp.

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Agricultural Research, 2013
Genetic diversity and relationships of 15 Amaranthus species were examined by using both morphological traits and random amplification of polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers. Ten morphological observations were recorded out of which seven were subjected to analysis of variance. Mean squares due to genotypes were highly significant.
