Amino Acids and Inherited Amino Acid-Related Disorders [PDF]
Amino acids perform multiple essential physiological roles in humans, and accordingly, their importance to health has been the subject of extensive attention. In this special issue of the Journal of Nutrition and Metabolism, we focus on the various inborn errors of amino acid metabolism, their diagnostic challenges, new treatment approaches, and recent

AbstractOver 90 years ago, Otto Warburg’s seminal discovery of aerobic glycolysis established metabolic reprogramming as one of the first distinguishing characteristics of cancer1. The field of cancer metabolism subsequently revealed additional metabolic alterations in cancer by focusing on central carbon metabolism, including the citric acid cycle and

Photosynthesis of amino acids [PDF]
Abstract Methods have been developed for performing dual tracer experiments with 15 N and 14 C on the photosynthesis and biosynthesis of amino acids in Chlorella pyrenoidosa . These methods involved the development of apparatus for maintaining algae in a condition of steady-state photosynthesis, including amino acid synthesis, and of adding ...

Physiology of the Amino Acids [PDF]
We have followed the amino acids from their entrance into the alimentary tract in the form of food proteins through the successive steps of digestion, absorption into the blood stream and passage from the blood stream into the tissues, where they are concentrated by some unknown mechanism to many times their concentration in the blood plasma.

Amino acid neurotransmitters in the CNS
D‐Aspartate exchange, defined as amino acid‐stimulated D‐[3H]aspartate efflux, was investigated in a preparation of rat brain synaptosomes. The efflux of radiolabelled D‐aspartate was found to be enhanced by micromolar concentrations of externally added D‐ and L‐aspartate, L‐glutamate, L‐cysteate.and L‐cysteinesulphinate.
