A straightforward approach towards combined α-amino and α-hydroxy acids based on Passerini reactions
Complex amino acids with an α-acyloxycarbonyl functionality in the side chain are easily available through epoxide opening by chelated enolates and subsequent oxidation/Passerini reaction. This protocol works with both, aldehyde and ketone intermediates,

The origin of biomolecular asymmetry – Insights from cometary and meteoritic matter
The chemistry of life is purely stereospecific. The fundamental biopolymers – proteins and nucleic acids – are intrinsically chiral due to their molecular building blocks, namely L-amino acids and D-sugars.

STEREOSELECTIVE FORMATION OF α,α-DIAMINO ACID RESIDUE BY THE ADDITION OF
Abstract An addition of l-α-amino acids to β,β-dibromo-α-imino acids proceeded to give the corresponding optically active α,α-diamino acid derivatives. A several conversions of the products are also described.

Structures of the K35 and K15 capsular polysaccharides of Acinetobacter baumannii LUH5535 and LUH5554 containing amino and diamino uronic acids [PDF]
Capsular polysaccharides were isolated from A. baumannii LUH5535 (K35 CPS) and LUH5554 (K15 CPS) and studied by 1D and 2D 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The CPSs were found to consist of linear tetrasaccharide repeats (K units) containing 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-d-galacturonic acid (K35) or 2,3-diacetamido-2,3-deoxy-d-glucuronic acid (K15) and 2,4 ...

Monovalent N‐acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc)‐modified polyrotaxane enables efficient liver targeting by utilizing ligand mobility. The sliding and rotating cyclic components i.e., cyclodextrin in the polyrotaxane dynamically cluster GalNAc moieties, thereby mimicking trivalent interactions with asialoglycoprotein receptors.
