Twelve derivatives of hexadecylphosphocholine (miltefosine) were synthesized to determine how the position and length of the alkyl chain within the molecule influence their biological activities. The prepared alkylphosphocholines have the same molecular formula as miltefosine.

Some Acanthamoeba strains are able to cause Granulomatous Amoebic Encephalitis (GAE) and Acanthamoeba keratitis (AK) worldwide because of their pathogenicity. The treatment of Acanthamoeba infections is complicated due to the existence of a highly resistant cyst stage in their life cycle. Therefore, the elucidation of novel sources of anti-Acanthamoeba

Amoebicidal thymol analogues against brain-eating amoeba, Naegleria fowleri
Bioorganic ChemistryNaegleria fowleri, known as the brain-eating amoeba, is the pathogen parasite that causes primary amoebic meningoencephalitis. None of the currently available therapies are fully effective, mainly due to the inefficacy of pharmacotherapy. In this regard,

Amoebicidal Activity of Multipurpose Contact Lens Solutions
Eye & Contact Lens: Science & Clinical Practice, 2005To compare the amoebicidal activity of two commercially available multipurpose contact lens care systems, by using cyst and trophozoite growth of two strains each of Acanthamoeba castellanii and Acanthamoeba polyphaga.Trophozoites and cysts of Acanthamoeba species, isolated from corneal ulcers and an ATCC strain, were exposed to two commonly used ...

Separation of Soluble Amoebicidal and Tumoricidal Activity of Activated Macrophages
The Journal of Protozoology, 1992ABSTRACT. Macrophage‐conditioned medium (MøCM) prepared from mouse peritoneal macrophages activated in vivo with bacillus Calmette‐Guérin (BCG) or Propionibacterium acnes and triggered with lipopolysaccharide in vitro contained tumoricidal and amoebicidal activity.

In Vitro Amoebicidal Activity of Propolis on Acanthamoeba castellanii
Journal of Ocular Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 2007The aim of this study was to investigate the in vitro effects of an ethanolic extract of propolis on the growth and adherence of Acanthamoeba castellanii trophozoites and cysts. The effect of propolis with concentrations of 8.0, 6.0, 5.0, 4.0, 3.0, and 2.0 mg/mL on the proliferation of A.

In vitro amoebicidal and antioxidant activities of some Tunisian seaweeds
Experimental Parasitology, 2017Free-living amoebae of genus Acanthamoeba are opportunistic pathogens widely distributed in the environment, and are the causative agents of several humans' infections, such as Acanthamoeba keratitis, Granulomatous Amoebic Encephalitis and also disseminated infections.

Amoebicidal activity of the antifungal antibiotic sinefungin against Entamoeba histolytica
Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1984The antifungal antibiotic sinefungin, a potent inhibitor of methyl transferases and a potential inhibitor of polyamine biosynthesis, exhibited marked cytolytic activity against Entamoeba histolytica in vitro with respect to all the amoeba strains tested. Strains of high and low virulence displayed equal sensitivity to the antibiotic.
