Studies in structure and amoebicidal activity [PDF]

open access: yes, 1950
The aim of the present investigation was to obtain more information as to the relation between structure and amoebicidal activity in the aliphatic diamines. Trimethylenediamine was prepared from glutaric acid by Schmidt's reaction. Tetramethylenediamine was obtained by doing Hoftmann's reaction on adipamide.

Amoebicidal Activity of Multipurpose Contact Lens Solutions

Eye & Contact Lens: Science & Clinical Practice, 2005
To compare the amoebicidal activity of two commercially available multipurpose contact lens care systems, by using cyst and trophozoite growth of two strains each of Acanthamoeba castellanii and Acanthamoeba polyphaga.Trophozoites and cysts of Acanthamoeba species, isolated from corneal ulcers and an ATCC strain, were exposed to two commonly used ...

Separation of Soluble Amoebicidal and Tumoricidal Activity of Activated Macrophages

The Journal of Protozoology, 1992
ABSTRACT. Macrophage‐conditioned medium (MøCM) prepared from mouse peritoneal macrophages activated in vivo with bacillus Calmette‐Guérin (BCG) or Propionibacterium acnes and triggered with lipopolysaccharide in vitro contained tumoricidal and amoebicidal activity.

In Vitro Amoebicidal Activity of Imidazolium Salts Against Trophozoites

Acta Parasitologica, 2020
Several strains of the free-living genus Acanthamoeba can cause granulomatous amoebic encephalitis (GAE), a rare chronic and slowly progressive infection of the central nervous system (CNS), and Acanthamoeba keratitis (AK), a sight-threatening eye infectious disease.

In Vitro Amoebicidal Activity of Propolis on Acanthamoeba castellanii

Journal of Ocular Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 2007
The aim of this study was to investigate the in vitro effects of an ethanolic extract of propolis on the growth and adherence of Acanthamoeba castellanii trophozoites and cysts. The effect of propolis with concentrations of 8.0, 6.0, 5.0, 4.0, 3.0, and 2.0 mg/mL on the proliferation of A.

In vitro amoebicidal and antioxidant activities of some Tunisian seaweeds

Experimental Parasitology, 2017
Free-living amoebae of genus Acanthamoeba are opportunistic pathogens widely distributed in the environment, and are the causative agents of several humans' infections, such as Acanthamoeba keratitis, Granulomatous Amoebic Encephalitis and also disseminated infections.

Amoebicidal activity of the antifungal antibiotic sinefungin against Entamoeba histolytica

Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1984
The antifungal antibiotic sinefungin, a potent inhibitor of methyl transferases and a potential inhibitor of polyamine biosynthesis, exhibited marked cytolytic activity against Entamoeba histolytica in vitro with respect to all the amoeba strains tested. Strains of high and low virulence displayed equal sensitivity to the antibiotic.

Salvia connivens, a Source of Bioactive Flavones with Amoebicidal and Giardicidal Activity

Revista Brasileira de Farmacognosia, 2020
Salvia connivens Epling, Lamiaceae, is an annual herbaceous plant used as a traditional medicine in Mexico for the treatment of diarrhea, which out can be caused by bacterial, viral, and protozoal infections, as well as toxins mainly. Mexican medicinal plants with anti-diarrheic activity represent a source of potential antiprotozoal agents.

Amoebicidal activity of the rhizomes and aerial parts of Allium sivasicum on Entamoeba histolytica

Parasitology Research, 2012
Amebiasis is a severe illness caused by Entamoebachistolytica. The aim of this study is to evaluate the in vitro amebicidal activity of the rhizomes and aerial parts of Allium sivasicum, an endemic plant species from the flora of Turkey. Both extracts showed a time- and dose-dependent amebicidal action on the trophozoites.

Amoebicidal activity and chemical composition of Pterocaulon polystachyum (Asteraceae) essential oil

Parasitology Research, 2011
Acanthamoeba species are free-living amoebae that constitute an etiological agent of Acanthamoeba keratitis, an illness that may cause severe ocular inflammation and blindness and has a very difficult treatment. These molecules that are found in plants may be an alternative for the development of new drugs.
