Quantitative analysis of the interaction between NMDA and AMPA receptors in glutamatergic synapses based on mathematical model

open access: yesNeuroscience Research
NMDA and AMPA receptors are co-localized at most glutamatergic synapses, where their numbers and distribution undergo dynamic changes. Glutamate binds to both the NMDA and AMPA receptors.

Potentiation effects of the positive allosteric modulator PTC‐174 on NMDA receptors in neonatal male rat substantia nigra dopaminergic neurons

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Purpose Positive allosteric modulators bind to secondary binding sites on the receptor and alter receptor conformation and activation, changing agonist potency and efficacy. PTC‐174 is a novel NMDA receptor positive allosteric modulator that particularly enhances activity of receptors containing GluN2C or GluN2D subunits.

NMDA receptor subunit‐dependent analysis of radiprodil inhibition in neonatal male rat substantia nigra dopaminergic neurons

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Purpose Radiprodil is a GluN2B subunit selective NMDA receptor negative allosteric modulator which is currently under clinical investigation as a possible anti‐epileptic drug for paediatric use. Our goal was to investigate the inhibition of dopaminergic neuron NMDA responses by radiprodil.

Ion binding sites and intermediate domain closure induced by D‐serine in the GluD1 ligand‐binding domain

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
GluD1 belongs to the ionotropic glutamate receptors and has important functions in the brain and brain diseases. We report the crystal structure of the GluD1 ligand‐binding domain with D‐serine and zinc ions. MD simulations supported promiscuous binding of cations and that chloride ions play a stabilizing role. Pro725 seems to hinder interlobe closure,

Chronic silencing of subsets of cortical layer 5 pyramidal neurons has a long‐term influence on the laminar distribution of parvalbumin interneurons and the perineuronal nets

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 246, Issue 4, Page 479-504, April 2025.
Chronic silencing of subsets of layer 5 projection neurons has distinct effects on the laminar distribution of PV interneurons and the perineuronal nets in the adult primary motor and somatosensory cortex. Abstract Neural networks are established throughout cortical development, which require the right ratios of glutamatergic and GABAergic neurons ...

The role of hydration in the removal of glyphosate (GLY) and aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA) by nanofiltration membranes

open access: yesNature Communications
Nanofiltration can remove glyphosate (GLY) and aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA) from water via steric, Donnan, and dielectric exclusions, although the significance of dielectric exclusion resulting from hydration has not been elucidated.

Extraction, Detection, and Quantification Methods for Analyzing Glyphosate and AMPA in Foods: Challenges and Opportunities

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Glyphosate (GLYP) is an effective and low-cost broad-spectrum herbicide. However, this herbicide and its primary degradation product, aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA), have been linked with adverse human health effects.

Occurrence and Levels of Glyphosate, Chlorate and Perchlorate in Irish Drinking Water: A Pilot Study

open access: yesWater and Environment Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Safe drinking water is a crucial component of public health. Pesticides and disinfection byproducts are known pollutants of concern. This study aimed to investigate the levels of the herbicide glyphosate and disinfection byproducts in Irish drinking water.
