A Tac1‐Expressing Brainstem Pathway Underlies the Pathogenesis of Trigeminal Neuralgia

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A critical TG‐Sp5CTac1‐PBNTac1 pathway drives trigeminal neuropathic pain (TNP). Tac1‐expressing parabrachial nucleus (PBNTac1) neurons exhibit heightened responses to innocuous stimuli in TNP, and chemogenetic inhibition of these neurons effectively prevents TNP development.

Short‐Term Outcomes of Robot‐Assisted Versus Laparoscopic Colectomy for Colon Cancer: A Propensity Score‐Matched Analysis

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
This study compared short‐term outcomes of robot‐assisted versus laparoscopic colectomy for colon cancer using 1:1 propensity score matching. Among 218 matched pairs, robot‐assisted colectomy was associated with reduced blood loss, fewer conversions to open surgery, lower overall complication rates, and shorter hospital stays, despite longer operative ...

Auditory Hyperresponsivity in Chronic Back Pain: A Randomized Controlled Trial of Pain Reprocessing Therapy

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Heightened sensitivity to noxious stimulation is a hallmark of chronic pain. Emerging evidence suggests heightened unpleasantness to non‐noxious (eg, auditory) aversive stimulation also characterizes chronic pain, but its magnitude, neural mechanisms, and treatment modifiability remain unknown.

Phosphorylation-deficient G-protein-biased μ-opioid receptors improve analgesia and diminish tolerance but worsen opioid side effects

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Tolerance and other side effects are important limitations to the use of opioids as analgesics. In this study, the authors generated mice lacking phosphorylation sites on the µ-opioid receptor to assess their contribution to the analgesic, tolerance and ...

Drug poisonings following bariatric surgery: Case series report

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Bariatric surgery alters gastrointestinal anatomy and physiology, which likely impacts upon oral medication absorption. Drug‐ and alcohol‐related deaths in this population are being increasingly reported; however, toxicological detail is lacking. Using data reported to the National Programme on Substance Use Mortality, we identified 18 deaths in people

Palliative cancer patients pain reduction methods during opioid epidemic era

open access: yesJournal of Education, Health and Sport, 2022
Introduction: Opioids are the most commonly used medication in palliative cancer pain treatment due to their proven effectiveness. However, modern anti-pain treatment concentrates not only on analgesics, but simultaneously on the detection of conditions
