Abstract 5782: Androgen receptor antagonists: Lead optimization and preclinical pharmacology

open access: yes, 2010
The development and progression of prostate cancer is known to be dependent on androgens and their signaling mediated by the androgen receptor (AR). The primary therapeutic intervention involves using agents that lower serum testosterone (e.g., LHRH ...

Essential embryology for the Canadian pathologists’ assistant

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, EarlyView.
Abstract Pathologists' assistants (PAs) are pivotal in healthcare, conducting autopsies and examining tissues under a pathologist's guidance. Embryology knowledge is crucial for PAs to accurately assess anomalies and identify pathologies. Yet, it is often overlooked in academic PA training programs.

Тіе Modern treatment of androgenetic alopecia

open access: yesVestnik Dermatologii i Venerologii, 2017
Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is the most common reason for hair loss. Its frequency in Caucasian population is up to 80% in men and 42% in women. Current gold standard for AGA treatment includes minoxidil and/or finasteride.

The interplay between molecular architecture, pharmacology, and suspected adverse drug reactions associated with nonsteroidal androgen antagonists in the United Kingdom

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aims This work aimed to correlate potential links between the suspected adverse drug reaction (ADR) profile of licensed nonsteroidal androgen receptor antagonists (NSARA) with their unique chemical properties and known off‐target polypharmacology. Methods Physicochemical and polypharmacology data were curated from the Electronic Medicines Compendium ...

Binding of Clucocorticoid Antagonists To Androgen and Glucocorticoid Hormone Receptors in Rat Skeletal-muscle

open access: yes, 1986
The binding of ten steroids possessing antiglucocorticoid activity has been studied in rat skeletal muscle cytosol. The affinity of these steroids for both the androgen and the glucocorticoid receptors was determined by competition with radioactive R1881

Mechanisms of Androgen Receptor Agonist- and Antagonist-Mediated Cellular Senescence in Prostate Cancer

open access: yes, 2020
The androgen receptor (AR) plays a leading role in the control of prostate cancer (PCa) growth. Interestingly, structurally different AR antagonists with distinct mechanisms of antagonism induce cell senescence, a mechanism that inhibits cell cycle ...

On the importance of including both sexes in animal studies – insights from home‐cage monitoring

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A review of behavioural studies using home‐cage monitoring (HCM) systems revealed that over 61% of studies used only male subjects, with only 24% including both sexes, despite evidence of substantial behavioural differences between male and female animals. This bias could influence the outcomes of biomedical research.
