Androgen receptor polymorphism (CAG repeats) and androgenicity

Clinical Endocrinology, 2005
SummaryObjective  Polymorphism of the androgen receptor (AR) has been related to various pathophysiological conditions, such as osteoporosis and infertility. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the frequency of distribution in a normal Italian population and to assess CAG repeats (CAGr) in other conditions, such as hypoandrogenism ...

Androgens and androgen receptor in prostate and ovarian malignancies

Frontiers in Bioscience, 2003
The molecular and biochemical mechanisms contributing to the development and progression of both prostate and ovarian carcinogenesis are currently unknown. A better understanding of the cross-talk between endocrine, signal transduction and regulatory pathways in normal and neoplastic prostatic and ovarian tissues is necessary to elucidate malignant ...

Androgen dependency of the androgen receptor in rat epididymis

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1975
Abstract Binding of radioactive androgen to the 8S epididymal receptor is reduced to undetectable levels after 30 days of castration. Testosterone propionate(200 μg/day)administered starting immediately after castration and continued for 30 days prevented the disappearance of binding activity.

Androgens and Androgen Receptor in Dermatology

2002
In addition to male sexual development and maturation, androgens also mediate sebum secretion and hair growth. The effect of androgens is mainly through their binding to the androgen receptor (AR) which is a nuclear receptor superfamily member. These androgen-AR complexes then enhance their target genes’ expression by binding to response elements in ...

The role of androgens and the androgen receptor in prostate cancer

Cancer Letters, 2002
Prostate cancer (PCa) is the leading diagnosed malignancy in men in western countries. The relationship between androgens and the androgen receptor (AR) has been studied extensively in PCa. Plasma levels of androgens show variations between different populations, and in many cases this correlates with PCa susceptibility.

[Androgen receptor and insensitivity to androgens].

La Revue du praticien, 1994
Androgen insensitivity syndromes are suspected in XY subjects with normal testosterone secretion presenting with absent or severely impaired androgen dependent sexual differentiation. Such clinical features suggest an abnormality of the androgen receptor, necessary step in the transmission of the hormonal message.
