Antimicrobial activity of Andrographis paniculata
Fitoterapia, 2003The antimicrobial activity of aqueous extract, andrographolides and arabinogalactan proteins from Andrographis paniculata were evaluated. The aqueous extract showed significant antimicrobial activity, which may be due to the combined effect of the isolated arabinogalactan proteins and andrographolides.

Biosynthesis of andrographolide in Andrographis paniculata
Phytochemistry, 2010Andrographolide, a diterpene lactone, is isolated from Andrographis paniculata which is well known for its medicinal properties. The biosynthetic route to andrographolide was studied using [1-(13)C]acetate, [2-(13)C]acetate and [1,6-(13)C(2)]glucose. The peak enrichment of eight carbon atoms in the (13)C NMR spectra of andrographolide suggested that ...

Flavonoids of andrographis paniculata
Phytochemistry, 1983Abstract Chromatographic separation of the petrol extract of Andrographis paniculata roots resulted in the isolation and characterization of two new flavonoids, 5-hydroxy-7,8-dimethoxyflavanone and 5-hydroxy-3,7,8,2′-tetramethoxyflavone, as well as the known flavonoid 5-hydroxy-7,8-dimethoxyflavone.

Immunostimulant Agents from Andrographis paniculata
Journal of Natural Products, 1993EtOH extract and purified diterpene andrographolides of Andrographis paniculata (Acanthaceae) induced significant stimulation of antibody and delayed type hypersensitivity (DTH) response to sheep red blood cells (SRBC) in mice. The plant preparations also stimulated nonspecific immune response of the animals measured in terms of macrophage migration ...

Antioxidant action of Andrographis paniculata on lymphoma
Molecular Biology Reports, 2007Regulation of the balance between production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by cellular processes and its removal by antioxidant defense system maintains normal physiological processes. Any condition leading to increased ROS results in oxidative stress which has been related with a number of diseases including cancer.

Elicitation of Andrographolide in the Suspension Cultures of Andrographis paniculata
Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 2012Andrographis paniculata belonging to the family Acanthaceae produces a group of diterpene lactones, one of which is the pharmaceutically important-andrographolide. It is known to possess various important biological properties like anticancer, anti-HIV, anti-inflammatory, etc.

Anticancer and immunostimulatory compounds from Andrographis paniculata
Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2004Andrographis paniculata extract is traditionally used as a medicine to treat different diseases in India, China and Southeast Asia. In the present study, we evaluated the anticancer and immunomodulatory activity of the methanolic extract of Andrographis paniculata in human cancer and immune cells.
