Could Anti‐Hypertensive Drug Therapy Affect the Clinical Prognosis of Hypertensive Patients With COVID‐19 Infection? Data From Centers of Southern Italy

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2020
BACKGROUND Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) is the cause of a pandemic disease, with severe acute respiratory syndrome by binding target epithelial lung cells through angiotensin‐converting enzyme 2 in humans.

Day‐to‐day fasting plasma glucose variability on the short‐term prognosis of ST‐segment elevation myocardial infarction: A retrospective cohort study

open access: yesClinical Cardiology, Volume 45, Issue 12, Page 1246-1254, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Background and Hypothesis Glycemic variability in one fact that explain the differences in cardiovascular outcomes. The short‐term fasting plasma glucose (FPG) variability may have an on major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with ST‐segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

Pathological Role of Angiotensin II in Severe COVID-19

open access: yesTH Open, 2020
The activated renin–angiotensin system induces a prothrombotic state resulting from the imbalance between coagulation and fibrinolysis. Angiotensin II is the central effector molecule of the activated renin–angiotensin system and is degraded by the ...

The protein cost of metabolic fluxes: prediction from enzymatic rate laws and cost minimization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Bacterial growth depends crucially on metabolic fluxes, which are limited by the cell's capacity to maintain metabolic enzymes. The necessary enzyme amount per unit flux is a major determinant of metabolic strategies both in evolution and bioengineering.

Enzyme-enriched condensates show self-propulsion, positioning, and coexistence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Enzyme-enriched condensates can organize the spatial distribution of their substrates by catalyzing non-equilibrium reactions. Conversely, an inhomogeneous substrate distribution induces enzyme fluxes through substrate-enzyme interactions. We find that condensates move towards the center of a confining domain when this feedback is weak.

The mortality for the implantable cardiac defibrillator in nonischemic cardiomyopathy: An updated systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesClinical Cardiology, Volume 45, Issue 12, Page 1163-1170, December 2022., 2022
Abstract The implantable cardiac defibrillator (ICD) is common for the management of nonischemic cardiomyopathy (NICM). Mortality is a crucial issue for patients with NICM. We can understand the mortality events of ICD versus medicine treatment via a systemic review and meta‐analysis of randomized clinical trials.

Postoperative angioedema induced by angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor: case report [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Anestesiologia, 2019
Background and objectives: Angioedema is a potentially fatal condition that may occur at any time in the perioperative period. It may result from histamine release, hypersensitivity reaction to drugs, or be triggered by bradykinin, in non-allergic ...

Functional Polymer Nanocomposites by Gas Aggregation Cluster Source and Initiated Chemical Vapor Deposition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
In this work, a gas aggregation cluster source and an initiated chemical vapor deposition are combined in a single vacuum reactor. With this setup polymer thin films can be combined with functional nanoparticles. As a proof‐of‐concept PTFE is combined with silver nanoparticles and tested in antibacterial, antiviral, and anticancer applications ...

A remote hypertension management program clinical algorithm

open access: yesClinical Cardiology, Volume 45, Issue 12, Page 1147-1162, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Introduction Hypertension is the leading risk factor for death, affecting over one billion people worldwide, yet control rates are poor and stagnant. We developed a remote hypertension management program that leverages digitally transmitted home blood pressure (BP) measurements, algorithmic care pathways, and patient–navigator communications ...
