Cardiovascular and neuropsychiatric outcomes with PCSK9 inhibitors in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease: A retrospective cohort study

Study design and main findings. After 1:1 propensity score matching, 60 885 PCSK9 inhibitor users and 60 885 statin‐only users with ASCVD were compared. Kaplan–Meier curves show 12‐month cumulative event‐free survival for MACE, psychiatric disease, and neurodegenerative disease.

Aims The glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonists (GLP‐1 RAs) semaglutide and liraglutide are approved for chronic weight management. Both drugs also have favourable effects on the risk of developing diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD) compared with placebo, but their comparative effectiveness for these outcomes is unclear.

Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) is well known for its dual actions to convert inactive Ang I to active Ang II, and degrades active bradykinin (BK), which plays an important role in controlling blood pressure. Because it is the bottleneck step for the production of pressor Ang II, it was targeted pharmacologically in the 1970s.
