Angiotensin IV in the central nervous system

Cell and Tissue Research, 2003
The mammalian brain harbors a renin-angiotensin system (RAS), which is independent from the peripheral RAS. Angiotensin II is a well-studied member of the RAS and exerts most of the known angiotensin-mediated effects on fluid and electrolyte homeostasis, autonomic activity, neuroendocrine regulation, and behavior.

Characterization and Purification of the Bovine Adrenal Angiotensin IV Receptor (AT4) Using [125I]Benzoylphenylalanine-Angiotensin IV as a Specific Photolabel

The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, 1998
The Ang IV receptor, AT4, has been shown to play important roles in various mammalian tissues. In this study, structural properties of the AT4 receptor from bovine adrenals are described using a novel photoactive analog of Ang IV, [125I]Benzoylphenylalanine-Ang IV (BP-Ang IV), recently developed in our laboratory. [125I]BP-Ang IV is identical to Ang IV

Effects of angiotensin IV and angiotensin-(1-7) on basal and angiotensin II-stimulated cytosolic Ca2+ in mesangial cells

European Journal of Pharmacology, 2001
This study analyzed the influence of two main metabolites of angiotensin II, angiotensin IV and angiotensin-(1-7), on basal and angiotensin II-dependent [Ca2+](i) in rat mesangial cells. Angiotensin IV behaved as a weak agonist. Its effects were abolished by angiotensin AT(1) receptor antagonists. Treatment with angiotensin II abolished the effect of a

Strain differences in the effects of Angiotensin IV on mouse cognition

European Journal of Pharmacology, 2010
Angiotensin IV has been shown to improve learning and memory in rodents. Strain dependent variation in murine behaviour, aminopeptidase activity and inhibitory effect of Angiotensin IV, structural variation in insulin regulated aminopeptidase (IRAP) and aminopeptidase N (ApN) and expression of the encoding genes were explored. Strain differences in the

Angiotensin IV-evoked vasoprotection is conserved in advanced atheroma

Atherosclerosis, 2008
We have previously demonstrated that chronic treatment with the hexapeptide angiotensin (Ang) IV significantly improved endothelium-dependent vasorelaxation in isolated aorta obtained from young adult apolipoprotein E-deficient (ApoE(-/-)) mice. The current study aimed to investigate whether this effect is evident using ApoE(-/-) mice with established ...

Modification of Normal Activities of Angiotensin II and Angiotensin IV in Rats with Experimental Hypo- and Hyperglycemia

Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 2012
Changes in blood glucose levels are paralleled by modification of normal activities of angiotensin II and angiotensin IV. Hypo- and hyperglycemia similarly reduced the hypertensive effect of angiotensin II and similarly distorted the initial hypotensive effect of angiotensin IV.

Autoradiographic Identification of Kidney Angiotensin IV Binding Sites and Angiotensin IV-Induced Renal Cortical Blood Flow Changes in Rats

Peptides, 1998
The present investigation initially determined that specific binding sites for the hexapeptide angiotensin IV (AngIV) are present in the rat kidney cortex and outer medulla but not in the inner medulla, using in vitro autoradiographic techniques. This binding site has been termed AT4, is distinct from the previously characterized AT1 and AT2 sites, and

Anti‐atherosclerotic effects of the hexapeptide angiotensin IV

The FASEB Journal, 2008
We have previously demonstrated a vasoprotective effect following two week infusion of the hexapeptide fragment, angiotensin (Ang) IV in large conduit vessels taken from apolipoprotein E‐deficient (ApoE −/− ) mice.

Participation of D1–4 dopamine receptors in the pro-cognitive effects of angiotensin IV and des-Phe6 angiotensin IV

Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews, 2010
Angiotensin IV (Ang IV) and des-Phe(6)Ang IV are naturally occurring neuroactive peptides of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) involved in memory processing. However, the relevant mechanisms are poorly understood. In this review it is proposed that the pro-cognitive effects of these peptides are, at least partly, mediated by dopamine (DA).

A Specific Binding Site for Angiotensin II(3-8), Angiotensin IV, in Rabbit Cardiac Fibroblasts

Journal of Receptors and Signal Transduction, 1995
This study demonstrates the existence of a high affinity binding site on rabbit cardiac fibroblasts of the hexapeptide (3-8) fragment of angiotensin II (AngIV). [125I]-AngIV binding is saturable, reversible and distinct from angiotensin II (AngII) receptors. At 37 degrees C equilibrium of [125I]-AngIV binding is reached within 2 h.
