Functional Polymer Nanocomposites by Gas Aggregation Cluster Source and Initiated Chemical Vapor Deposition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
In this work, a gas aggregation cluster source and an initiated chemical vapor deposition are combined in a single vacuum reactor. With this setup polymer thin films can be combined with functional nanoparticles. As a proof‐of‐concept PTFE is combined with silver nanoparticles and tested in antibacterial, antiviral, and anticancer applications ...

Featuring ACE2 binding SARS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2 through a conserved evolutionary pattern of amino acid residues [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Spike (S) glycoproteins mediate the coronavirus entry into the host cell. The S1 subunit of S-proteins contains the receptor-binding domain (RBD) that is able to recognize different host receptors, highlighting its remarkable capacity to adapt to their hosts along the viral evolution.

Advancing the Identification of Bioactive Molecules and the Construction of a Synergistic Drug Delivery System in Combating Lung Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), while holistic and historically esteemed, faces challenges in “miracle cures” due to slow onset, long cycles, and difficulty controlling quality. This study obtains the active ingredients, glabridin (GLA) and puerarin (PUE), from Ge‐Gen Decoction (GGD), developing a safe and effective drug delivery system, GLA‐PUE ...

Mathematical model of SARS-Cov-2 propagation versus ACE2 fits COVID-19 lethality across age and sex and predicts that of SARS, supporting possible therapy [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
The fatality rate of Covid-19 escalates with age and is larger in men than women. I show that these variations correlate strongly with the level of the viral receptor protein ACE2 in rat lungs, which is consistent with the still limited and apparently contradictory data on human ACE2.

PRMT1 Ablation in Endothelial Cells Causes Endothelial Dysfunction and Aggravates COPD Attributable to Dysregulated NF‐κB Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates the role of protein arginine methyltransferase 1 (PRMT1) in endothelial cells (ECs) in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Mice with endothelial‐specific PRMT1 deletion develop pulmonary hemorrhage, inflammation, and apoptosis, driven by excessive nuclear factor kappa B activation.

Expression profiles of TRPV1, TRPV4, TLR4 and ERK1/2 in the dorsal root ganglionic neurons of a cancer-induced neuropathy rat model [PDF]

open access: yesMaqboul A, Elsadek B. (2018) Expression profiles of TRPV1, TRPV4, TLR4 and ERK1/2 in the dorsal root ganglionic neurons of a cancer-induced neuropathy rat model. PeerJ 6:e4622 https://doi.org/10.7717/peerj.4622, 2018
Background: The spread of tumors through neural routes is common in several types of cancer in which patients suffer from a moderate-to-severe neuropathy, neural damage and a distorted quality of life. Here we aim to examine the expression profiles of transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) and of transient receptor potential vanilloid 4 ...

The Comparative Pharmacology of Angiotensin II Receptor Antagonists

open access: yesBlood Pressure, 2001
Several orally active non-peptide angiotensin II subtype 1 (AT1) receptor antagonists are now available for the treatment of hypertension. These agents have a common mechanism of action--blockade of the binding of angiotensin II to the subtype 1 receptor--and their binding to this receptor is generally insurmountable. There are some pharmacokinetic and

Screening and Identification of Novel DNA Aptamer for Targeted Delivery to Injured Podocytes in Glomerular Diseases

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops RLS‐2, a high‐affinity aptamer that specifically targets injured podocytes, making it a promising candidate for targeted drug delivery. In vitro, RLS‐2 shows stability, specificity, efficient siRNA delivery via AsiCs, and uptake by podocytes.

Suppression of Aldosterone Synthesis and Secretion by Channel Antagonists

open access: yesInternational Journal of Endocrinology, 2012
Aldosterone, a specific mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) agonist and a key player in the development of hypertension, is synthesized as a final product of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system.
