Elucidating Immune Cell Mediated Causal Pathways Linking Blood Metabolites to Major Depressive Disorder: A Mediation Mendelian Randomization Analysis

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
Our integrative Mendelian randomization framework revealed that specific circulating metabolites exert causal effects on major depressive disorder, partly through immune‐cell–mediated pathways. These findings highlight metabolite–immune interactions as potential mechanistic targets for MDD prevention and therapy.

Social and Anxiety‐Like Behaviors Are Affected in Juvenile Mice With Gli2+/− but Not Gli3+/𝛥699 Genetic Modifications

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
Across Gli3+/Δ699, Gli2+/−, and combined Gli2+/−;Gli3+/Δ699 mice (males and females, with wild‐type controls), GLI2 and GLI3 differentially regulate anogenital distance and juvenile behavior, with amplified effects under combined disruption, whereas circulating steroids and sexually dimorphic nucleus area remain unchanged. Psychedelic Therapy and the Role of Music: A Scoping Review of Quantitative Evidence on Subjective and Objective Outcomes

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Purpose Psychedelics have received considerable attention due to their potential in treating psychiatric disorders. The “setting” during psychedelic‐assisted therapy (PAT) is recognized as playing a central role in the experience, during which music features prominently. Although music is theorized as directing and shaping psychedelic sessions,

Association Between Systemic Inflammation Response Index and Specific Depressive Symptoms: Evidence From a Cross‐Sectional Survey

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
The study investigated the association between systemic inflammation response index (SIRI) and individual depressive symptoms. Multivariable‐adjusted associations between SIRI and symptoms of anhedonia, sleep disturbance, fatigue, and appetite changes were reported.

Neurocognitive Aging Following Acute Illness: Pathobiology and a Framework for Developing Neurotherapeutic Agents

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
In this review, we discuss the scientific basis for how neurocognitive aging occurs after critical illness, including sepsis, trauma, and burns, and the clinical need to develop therapies to reduce inflammation, protect the blood–brain barrier, remove senescent cells, and enhance neuroplasticity.

Expectations and Motivations for Participation in Clinical Trials Utilizing Psychedelics for Treatment‐Resistant Depression: A Qualitative Study

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
Individuals with treatment‐resistant depression considering psychedelic trial participation were motivated by chronic illness, failed treatments, and hope for a novel intervention, while actively minimizing expectations to guard against disappointment.

Factor Structures of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale in Cancer: Implications of Comprehensive Confirmatory Analysis on the German Version of the HADS in an Oncological Sample

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) is a widely used instrument for assessing anxiety and depression in cancer patients. However, the best factor structure for an oncological setting depending on the time of diagnosis is still unclear. Aim The objective of this study was to investigate the factor structure of the German‐

Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) for the Treatment of Hemolacria Comorbid With Psychiatric and Somatic Symptoms: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Hemolacria is a rare condition characterized by bloody tears. Its etiology is often multifactorial, but functional/psychosomatic mechanisms have been proposed when organic causes are excluded. A 48‐year‐old woman with a history of multiple traumatic brain injuries (coma in 2008, car accident in 2017) presented with refractory generalized ...

Pediatric Wilson Disease in Sudan: A Rare Case, Sudan Conflict and Diagnostic Challenges

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Wilson disease is rarely reported among African children. Wilson disease is due to a mutation in ATP7B on an autosomal recessive pattern, which causes defective copper excretion and copper accumulation in tissues such as liver and brain.
