Neuronal Activity Promotes Node‐Like Cluster Assembly Prior to Myelination and Remyelination in the Central Nervous System

open access: yesGlia, Volume 74, Issue 4, April 2026.
Ronzano et al. show that neuronal activity promotes node‐like cluster (NLC) formation before (re)myelination by regulating β1Nav and Nav1.1, which are essential for NLC assembly. This may represent an intermediate step in activity‐driven myelination and contribute to the regulation of axonal conduction.

Regulation of perisomatic synapses from cholecystokinin basket interneurons through NrCAM and Ankyrin B

open access: yesCurrent Research in Neurobiology
The perisomatic region of cortical pyramidal neurons (PNs) integrates local and long-range inputs and regulates firing. This domain receives GABAergic inputs from cholecystokinin (CCK)- and Parvalbumin (PV)-expressing basket cells (BCs) but how synaptic ...

Axon Initial Segment: Structure, Biological Functions, Diseases, and Therapeutic Targets

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 4, April 2026.
The axon initial segment (AIS) is a specialized axonal domain critical for maintaining neuronal polarity, action potential initiation, and network stability. This review summarizes the necessary elements for maintaining AIS structure and plasticity, discussing crucial biological functions of AIS in neuronal signaling and the neural circuit homeostasis,

Adipose Tissue‐Derived Small Extracellular Vesicles in Plasma Reveal Molecular Circuitries Underlying Glucose Intolerance

open access: yesObesity, Volume 34, Issue 4, Page 896-907, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective Glucose tolerance (GT) is a major effector for adipose tissue (AT) remodeling in obesity, yet its molecular mechanisms remain incompletely defined. We hypothesized that the biophysical and molecular profiles of AT‐derived small extracellular vesicles (sEVAT) change in response to glucose availability and differ by GT status.

Differential Gene Expression in Human Hippocampus With Aging

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 4, April 2026.
2 complementary analysis from a transcriptome study in human hippocampal samples of different ages revealed a set of genes differentially expressed in aged individuals linked to inflammation and immune system pathways, DNA repair (RAD23) or neural activity.

Epigenetic mechanisms and therapeutic innovations in chronic pain‐associated neuropsychiatric co‐morbidities

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 7, Page 1313-1340, April 2026.
Abstract Chronic pain, marked by nociceptive sensitization and maladaptive neuroplasticity, affects 30% of the global population with escalating socioeconomic burdens. Epidemiological data show a 2‐3‐fold increase in neuropsychiatric co‐morbidities among individuals with chronic pain, where epigenetic dysregulation serves as a key mechanism linking ...
