Salinity and prolactin regulate anoctamin 1 in the model teleost, Fundulus heteroclitus.
American Journal of Physiology. Regulatory Integrative and Comparative PhysiologyTo maintain internal ion balance in marine environments, teleost fishes leverage seawater (SW)-type ionocytes to actively secrete Na+ and Cl- into the environment.

Calcium-regulated chloride channel anoctamin-1 is present in the suprachiasmatic nuclei of rats
NeuroReport, 2018Calcium-regulated chloride channel (CaCC) anoctamin-1 has been recently identified in neurons. In neurons, which express the Na-K-2Cl cotransporter, activation of CaCCs increases firing frequency, by reversion between the Cl equilibrium potential and the membrane resting potential, leading to membrane depolarization by Cl extrusion from the cell ...

A mathematical model of the effects of anoctamin-1 loss on intestinal slow wave entrainment
2017 39th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC), 2017The interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) generate electrophysiological events called slow waves that regulate the motility of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Recent studies have demonstrated that the Ca2+-activated Cl- -channel, encoded by the anoctamin1 (Ano1) protein, has a major role in regulating intestinal slow waves and motility.

Anoctamin‐1 Expression at the Mitochondrial Membrane of Pulmonary Artery Endothelial Cells
The FASEB Journal, 2019Anoctamin‐1 (Ano1) is a calcium‐activated chloride channel that can regulate cell proliferation and cell cycle in endothelial cells (ECs). According to a recent proteomics study, Ano1 interacts with mitochondrial proteins in addition to plasma‐membrane ...

Expression patterns of anoctamin 1 and anoctamin 2 chloride channels in the mammalian nose
Cell and Tissue Research, 2012Calcium-activated chloride channels are expressed in chemosensory neurons of the nose and contribute to secretory processes and sensory signal transduction. These channels are thought to be members of the family of anoctamins (alternative name: TMEM16 proteins), which are opened by micromolar concentrations of intracellular Ca(2+).
