Blockade of anoctamin-1 in injured and uninjured nerves reduces neuropathic pain

Brain Research, 2018
The aim of this study was to determine the participation of anoctamin-1 in 2 models of neuropathic pain in rats (L5/L6 spinal nerve ligation [SNL] and L5 spinal nerve transection [SNT]). SNL and SNT diminished withdrawal threshold in rats. Moreover, SNL up-regulated anoctamin-1 protein expression in injured L5 and uninjured L4 DRG whereas that it ...

Altered anoctamin-1 and tyrosine phosphorylation in congenital ureteropelvic junction obstruction

Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 2020
Ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction is the most common cause of congenital hydronephrosis in children. The pathophysiology of UPJ obstruction and the exact mechanism of pelviureteral peristalsis are poorly understood. Anoctamin-1 (ANO1), a Ca2+-activated chloride channel, has been shown to play a key role in muscle wall contractions in the ...

Function and Regulation of the Calcium-Activated Chloride Channel Anoctamin 1 (TMEM16A)

2022
Various human tissues express the calcium-activated chloride channel Anoctamin 1 (ANO1), also known as TMEM16A. ANO1 allows the passive chloride flux that controls different physiological functions ranging from muscle contraction, fluid and hormone secretion, gastrointestinal motility, and electrical excitability.

Calcium-regulated chloride channel anoctamin-1 is present in the suprachiasmatic nuclei of rats

NeuroReport, 2018
Calcium-regulated chloride channel (CaCC) anoctamin-1 has been recently identified in neurons. In neurons, which express the Na-K-2Cl cotransporter, activation of CaCCs increases firing frequency, by reversion between the Cl equilibrium potential and the membrane resting potential, leading to membrane depolarization by Cl extrusion from the cell ...

A mathematical model of the effects of anoctamin-1 loss on intestinal slow wave entrainment

2017 39th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC), 2017
The interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) generate electrophysiological events called slow waves that regulate the motility of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Recent studies have demonstrated that the Ca2+-activated Cl- -channel, encoded by the anoctamin1 (Ano1) protein, has a major role in regulating intestinal slow waves and motility.

Use of anoctamin 1 (ANO1) to evaluate interstitial cells of Cajal in Hirschsprung’s disease

Pediatric Surgery International, 2015
Interstitial cells of Cajal (ICCs) are pacemaker cells involved in facilitating neurotransmission and the generation of slow electrical waves necessary for colonic peristalsis. Their distribution has been found to be abnormal in the aganglionic and ganglionic colon in Hirschsprung's disease (HSCR) using c-kit-labelling.
