Glomerular Basement Membrane and Anti-GBM Antibody Disease
Nephron, 2008The GBM is an important structure for the development of immunologic renal disease. It may serve as the primary antigen or as the site of deposition of immune complexes. The GBM is recognized as the major protein filtration barrier of the glomerulus.

Levels of epitope-specific autoantibodies correlate with renal damage in anti-GBM disease
Background. Although the clinical importance of demonstrating the presence of anti-glomerular basement membrane (anti-GBM) antibodies is well established, less is known concerning the clinical utility of measuring the levels of autoantibodies.

Anti-GBM antibody-induced proteinuria in isolated perfused rat kidney
American Journal of Physiology-Renal Physiology, 1985The effect of anti-GBM antibody on protein excretion was studied in isolated rat kidneys perfused with 20 mg of sheep anti-rat GBM (experimental) or nonantibody sheep IgG (control). Six control kidneys excreted 176 +/- 31 micrograms/min of BSA initially, rising to 296 +/- 111 micrograms/min at 2 h.

Diabetic nephropathy with interstitial nephritis presenting with a false-positive anti-GBM antibody
Clinical Nephrology, 2002A 56-year-old male with DM and HTN presented with flank pain and nausea. Review of systems was negative, physical examination was notable for mild hypovolemia and laboratory revealed BUN 51 mg/dl, creatinine (Cr) 5.1 mg/dl (baseline 1.5), Westergren ESR 122 mm/h, fractional excretion of sodium 0.2% and UA positive for blood and protein.

Anti-GBM antibody in a patient with diabetic nephropathy; all that glitters is not gold
Journal of NephrologyWe present the case of a 58-year-old male diabetic patient admitted to our department for a slight decrease in kidney function, with nephrotic range proteinuria, hematuria (16,000/ml) and positive anti-glomerular basement membrane antibodies. Kidney biopsy revealed diabetic nephropathy with no evidence of crescent formation or linear immunoglobulin ...

Double antibody-positive patients (DPP) have vasculitis associated with anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) and anti-glomerular basement membrane (GBM) disease. This is a rare and under-described condition. The present study aimed to compare renal function and characteristics between DPP and patients with ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) and ...
