Acne and anticonvulsants. [PDF]

open access: yesBMJ, 1983
The severity of acne and rate of excretion of sebum were assessed in 243 patients with epilepsy taking various anticonvulsants who were in hospital long term and in matched controls derived from a normal population of 2176 people. Neither the prevalence of acne nor the sebum excretion rate significantly increased in the patients compared with the ...

Diagnosis, Prognosis, and Drug Target Discovery for Chronic Widespread Pain: A Large Proteogenomic Study

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Plasma proteomics is leveraged to decode the biological underpinnings of chronic widespread pain. A nested machine learning framework integrates proteomic signatures, prospective outcomes, and Mendelian randomization to uncover 18 causal proteins.

Targeting ROCK2 to Restore Epileptic Synaptic Networks via Mitophagy Activation: Insights from Translational Imaging of SV2A In Vivo

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By integrating synaptic vesicle glycoprotein 2A PET imaging and transcriptomics, this study identifies Rho‐associated protein kinase 2 (ROCK2) as a critical regulator of synaptic network dysfunction in temporal lobe epilepsy. Pharmacological ROCK2 inhibition restores synaptic density and enhances mitophagy, thereby reducing seizures and neuronal damage.

Defining Sex‐ and Age‐Specific Initial Stay Times for Continuous Moderate‐Intensity Work in Hot Environments Before Heat‐Mitigation Controls Are Implemented – Part A

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Industrial Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rationale Industry guidelines recommend work‐rest allocations to limit increases in core temperature (Tcore; > 38.0°C or > Δ1.0°C above resting) during work in the heat. However, the initial duration of permissible work before implementing these allocations is not specified (initial stay time [IST]) and individual factors such as sex and age ...

Challenges in Genomic Variant Interpretation Within Pakistani Populations due to Genomic Healthcare Inequalities

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Accurate classification of genomic variants is crucial to ensure correct diagnosis, genetic counseling, and clinical management of monogenic inherited disorders. Variant interpretation can be hindered in populations that are significantly underrepresented in large reference genomic databases, leading to genomic healthcare inequalities. Despite

Design, Synthesis, and Evaluation of Anticonvulsant Activities of New Triazolopyrimidine Derivatives

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2022
Epilepsy, a severe brain disease affecting a large population, is treated mainly by antiepileptic drugs (AEDs). However, toxicity, intolerance, and low efficiency of the available AEDs have prompted the continual attempts in the discovery of new AEDs. In
