The role of dissociation in ketamine’s antidepressant effects

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
Ketamine produces immediate antidepressant effects and has inspired research into next-generation treatments. Ketamine also has short term dissociative effects, in which individuals report altered consciousness and perceptions of themselves and their ...

Functional connectivity of brain structures correlates with treatment outcome in Major Depressive Disorder

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychiatry, 2011
Identifying biosignatures to assess the probability of response to an antidepressant for patients with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is critically needed. Functional connectivity MRI (fcMRI) offers the promise to provide such a measure.

An efficient multiple imputation algorithm for control-based and delta-adjusted pattern mixture models using SAS [PDF]

open access: yesStatistics in Biopharmaceutical research 2016, 2016
In clinical trials, mixed effects models for repeated measures (MMRM) and pattern mixture models (PMM) are often used to analyze longitudinal continuous outcomes. We describe a simple missing data imputation algorithm for the MMRM that can be easily implemented in standard statistical software packages such as SAS PROC MI.

Estimating Individualized Treatment Rules in Longitudinal Studies with Covariate-Driven Observation Times [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
The sequential treatment decisions made by physicians to treat chronic diseases are formalized in the statistical literature as dynamic treatment regimes. To date, methods for dynamic treatment regimes have been developed under the assumption that observation times, i.e., treatment and outcome monitoring times, are determined by study investigators ...

Regulation of BDNF and trkB mRNA in rat brain by chronic electroconvulsive seizure and antidepressant drug treatments

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience, 1995
The influence of chronic electroconvulsive seizure (ECS) or antidepressant drug treatments on expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and its receptor, trkB, was examined by in situ hybridization and Northern blot. In frontal cortex, acute

Entity-based Claim Representation Improves Fact-Checking of Medical Content in Tweets [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
False medical information on social media poses harm to people's health. While the need for biomedical fact-checking has been recognized in recent years, user-generated medical content has received comparably little attention. At the same time, models for other text genres might not be reusable, because the claims they have been trained with are ...

"When they say weed causes depression, but it's your fav antidepressant": Knowledge-aware Attention Framework for Relationship Extraction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
With the increasing legalization of medical and recreational use of cannabis, more research is needed to understand the association between depression and consumer behavior related to cannabis consumption. Big social media data has potential to provide deeper insights about these associations to public health analysts.
