Impedance spectroscopy in biodynamics: Detection of specific cells (pathogens) using immune coated electrodes [PDF]

open access: yesSongklanakarin Journal of Science and Technology (SJST), 2002
We describe the theoretical and experimental approaches for monitoring the interfacial biomolecular reaction between immobilized antibody and the antigen binding partner (the analyte, or the targeted cell) using Impedance Spectroscopy, IS.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

The anti-Mia antibody – Report of four cases in a tertiary care hospital with review of literature

open access: yesGlobal Journal of Transfusion Medicine, 2019
Anti – Mia antibody is antibody reacting with Mi III phenotype of the Miltenberger (Mi) subsystem. It is rarely reported in the West, however, it is common in Chinese and South East Asian populations. Very few cases have been reported in India.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

The Immune System [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Modern biotherapy has been in use for some 30 years. The first types of biotherapy were nonspecific stimulators of the immune response, but advances in genetic engineering are allowing the mass production of pure biological products which are now being ...

Acute Hemolytic Transfusion Reaction Due to Anti-c Rhesus Antibody in a Patient With Subdural Hematoma: A Case Report Emphasizing the Shortcoming of Spin Cross-Match

open access: yesActa Medica Iranica, 2020
The Rh blood group system is a complex blood group which includes different antigen specificities such as c antigen. Anti-c antibody is associated with both acute and delayed hemolytic transfusion reactions as well as hemolytic disease of the newborn ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

A RARE PHENOMENON OF ANTI-N ANTIBODY REACTIVITY AT 37°C: AN UNCOMMON DETECTION IN ROUTINE IMMUNOLOGICAL SCREENING

open access: yesLiaquat Medical Research Journal
Anti-N antibodies usually possess cold-reactive properties which make them clinically insignificant and are mostly classified as naturally occurring IgM antibodies.

Repeated antigen challenge in patients with perennial allergic rhinitis to house dust mites

open access: yesAllergology International, 2003
Background: In allergic rhinitis, antigen-antibody reactions occur in the nasal mucosa through antigen exposure. A strong reaction occurs following exposure to a large amount of antigen, whereas no reaction occurs in the absence of antigens.
