Antigen presentation, antigen-presenting cells and antigen processing
Current Opinion in Immunology, 1988To summarize, during the period under review there have been considerable advances in our understanding of how antigen is associated with MHC on the surface of a presenting cell. Basic rules which govern this association have been confirmed as including both the nature and the configuration of the antigen.

Antigen processing in earthworms
Immunology Letters, 1994The administration of protein antigens into earthworms Lumbricus terrestris and Eisenia foetida induces the formation of antigen-binding protein (ABP) with the maximum response occurring between days 4 and 8. High proteolytic activities observed both in coelomocytes and in coelomic fluids cause rapid antigen degradation; the majority of antigen is ...

Antigen processing and presentation
2019Dendritic cells are at the center of immune responses. They are defined by their ability to sense the environment, take up and process antigen, migrate to secondary lymphoid organs, where they present antigens to the adaptive immune system. In particular, they present lipids and proteins from pathogens, which they encountered in peripheral tissues, to ...

Antigen processing and presentation
Immunology Letters, 1990An overview of the various aspects of antigen degradation and presentation is given with special emphasis on the possible occurrence of variation in the enzymatic machinery present in different cells or individuals. Different procedures for epitope mapping are also presented as well as the characterization of universal epitopes in humans.

Proteasomes and Antigen Processing
1997Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the recent findings related to the roles of proteasomes in the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I-restricted antigen-processing pathway. One of the most important responses in this antigen-specific immune system is to distinguish correctly non-self-antigens from self-antigens for selective ...

Mechanisms of Antigen Processing
Immunological Reviews, 1988Using MAb and monovalent Fab probes and saponin permeabilization we have demonstrated that PEC and TA3 B lymphoma-hybridoma cells contain a significant intracellular pool of Ia. At least in TA3 cells, this intracellular pool was independent of protein synthesis. In PEC, adherence caused redistribution of Ia with disappearance of the intracellular pool.

Endosomal proteases and antigen processing
Trends in Biochemical Sciences, 1997T cells are activated by fragments of antigenic proteins bound to major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules and displayed on the cell surface. MHC class II proteins scavenge processed protein antigens from within endosomal compartments. The antigenic peptides are generated within these and other intracellular compartments using the array of ...

Antigen Processing Differences Among APC
Human Immunology, 1997The hierarchy of display of determinants on a protein antigen is of critical importance with respect to which T cells will be selected during thymic development, as well as in the induction of mature responses. Activation of T cells will be dependent on unfolding, reduction and chain cleavage of the antigen, and the vagaries of competition with other ...
