Cellular mutation mediates T-antigen-positive revertant cells resistant to simian virus 40 transformation but not to retransformation by polyomavirus and adenovirus type 2 [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 1987
T-antigen-positive transformation revertant cell lines were isolated from fully simian virus 40 (SV40)-transformed Fisher rat embryo fibroblast cells (REF 52 cells) by methionine starvation. Reversion of the transformed cells (SV-52 cells) was caused by a mutation within the cellular genome.

Electrochemical Biosensor for Rapid Detection of Acute Rejection in Kidney Transplants

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 15, Issue 1, 9 January 2026.
A low‐cost, rapid electrochemical immunosensor coated with a novel antifouling nanocomposite enables single‐step, dual‐biomarker profiling directly from unprocessed urine. Application in a clinical study shows accurate discrimination of acute rejection in kidney transplants from other acute kidney injuries via machine learning.

High-Affinity Rb Binding, p53 Inhibition, Subcellular Localization, and Transformation by Wild-Type or Tumor-Derived Shortened Merkel Cell Polyomavirus Large T Antigens [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2014
ABSTRACT Interference with tumor suppressor pathways by polyomavirus-encoded tumor antigens (T-Ags) can result in transformation. Consequently, it is thought that T-Ags encoded by Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV), a virus integrated in ∼90% of all Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) cases, are major contributors to tumorigenesis.

Engineering Complexity: Advances in 3D Breast Cancer Models for Precision Oncology

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 15, Issue 1, 9 January 2026.
In vitro breast cancer models that closely mimic the complex biological and cellular interactions within the tumor microenvironment hold strong promise for enhancing our understanding of tumor progression, immune system behavior, and resistance to therapies, which are essential for developing personalized cancer treatments. Abstract Engineered in vitro

Polyomavirus T antigens activate an antiviral state [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The large T antigen (TAg) of the polyomavirus Simian virus 40 (SV40) is known to play an important role in several events during the viral life cycle, including DNA replication, transcription, and virion assembly.

Functional Characterization of a Chicken Major Histocompatibility Complex Class II B Gene Promoter [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
A 0.7 kilobase (kb) DNA fragment from the 5\u27 flanking region of a chicken major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II B gene was cloned into chloramphenicol acetyltransferase (CAT) reporter vectors and was transfected into a chicken macrophage ...

Organ Transplantation: Current Status, Challenges, and Future Prospects

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 1, January 2026.
Organ transplantation success relies on precise modulation of the alloimmune response across distinct temporal phases of rejection. Hyperacute rejection results from preformed antibodies activating complement and causing thrombosis, while acute rejection involves T cell‐ and antibody‐mediated mechanisms that drive endothelial activation and ...

Adipocyte-derived endotrophin promotes malignant tumor progression [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Adipocytes represent a major cell type in the mammary tumor microenvironment and are important for tumor growth. Collagen VI (COL6) is highly expressed in adipose tissue, upregulated in the obese state, and enriched in breast cancer lesions and is a ...

Ubiquitination dynamics in human tumour viruses: Viral infection, oncogenesis and antiviral therapy

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 2, Page 325-347, January 2026.
The ubiquitin system is essential for cellular homeostasis and regulates many processes. Viruses, including oncogenic ones, exploit or evade this system to survive and replicate. This review explores how human tumour viruses manipulate the ubiquitination system to complete their life cycle, evade immunity and promote cancer.
