Synthesis, structure, and antimicrobial activity of aminated 5-chloro-6-nitrobenzofurazan with substituted anilines

open access: yesУчёные записки Казанского университета: Серия Естественные науки, 2017
A simple and efficient procedure for synthesis of nucleophilc aromatic substitution products in benzofurazan cycle on the basis of reactions of substituted anilines with 5-chloro-6-nitrobenzofurazan has been elaborated. The obtained products have a broad

SmallTalk: a novel small‐sized fusion tag for peptide expression and purification

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The SmallTalk fusion tag allows for the efficient expression and purification of soluble recombinant proteins or peptides in Escherichia coli. Testing with SmallTalk‐GFP confirmed that the proteins were soluble and folded correctly, while SmallTalk‐Bin1b maintained its antimicrobial activity against various bacterial isolates. This streamlined workflow

Structure–Activity Relationship Studies of Substitutions of Cationic Amino Acid Residues on Antimicrobial Peptides

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2022
Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) have received considerable attention as next-generation drugs for infectious diseases. Amphipathicity and the formation of a stabilized secondary structure are required to exert their antimicrobial activity by insertion into

Antimicrobial activity of bovine psoriasin

open access: yesVeterinary Microbiology, 2009
Human psoriasin (S100A7) has originally been described as a member of the family of S100 calcium-binding proteins which is overexpressed in patients suffering from psoriasis. The bovine homolog was first identified as a cow-derived respiratory allergen.

Establishment of a coculture system for Porphyromonas gingivalis and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma using spheroid culture and LATS inhibition

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We established a spheroid coculture system enabling viable Porphyromonas gingivalis–HNSCC interactions under normoxic conditions. Inhibition of LATS1/2 maintains tumor cells in an undifferentiated state, which may promote spheroid growth and create a more permissive environment for bacterial persistence.

Antimicrobial peptide LL-37 and recombinant human mannose-binding lectin express distinct age- and pathogen-specific antimicrobial activity in human newborn cord blood in vitro [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: There is a need to prevent and treat infection in newborns. One approach is administration of antimicrobial proteins and peptides (APPs) such as LL-37, a membrane-active cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide, and mannose-binding lectin (MBL), a ...

In vitro assessment of antimicrobial, antioxidant, and cytotoxic properties of Saccharin-Tetrazolyl and-Thiadiazolyl derivatives: the simple dependence of the pH value on antimicrobial activity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The antimicrobial, antioxidant, and cytotoxic activities of a series of saccharin-tetrazolyl and -thiadiazolyl analogs were examined. The assessment of the antimicrobial properties of the referred-to molecules was completed through an evaluation of ...

Antibiofilm activity of a chionodracine‐derived peptide by NMR‐based metabolomics of cell‐free supernatant of Acinetobacter baumannii clinical strains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KHS‐Cnd peptide is able to impair biofilm formation and disaggregate mature biofilms in Acinetobacter baumannii clinical isolates. Differences in extracellular metabolites reflect changes in biofilm metabolism due to KHS‐Cnd treatment. Among the differentially represented extracellular metabolites upon KHS‐Cnd treatment, the significantly altered ...

Antimicrobial Activity of N-hexane Extracts of Red Frangipani (Plumeria Rocea) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Antimicrobial assay of n-hexane plant extracts against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus had been done. Extraction with n-Hexane of the flowers yielded 2,08% of extract, while leaves and stems yielded 3,21% and 2,19% of n-hexane extracts ...
