Natural antimutagenic agents

Mutation Research/Fundamental and Molecular Mechanisms of Mutagenesis, 1996
Following a brief review of recent discoveries in the field of natural antimutagenic and tumor chemopreventive agents, contemporary findings in the author's laboratories employing the direct acting mutagen, ethyl methanesulfonate, in modified Ames tests and eukaryotic murine FM3A mammary tumor cells modified to be subject to thymidine-less death are ...

Plant Antimutagenic Agents, 2. Flavonoids

Journal of Natural Products, 1988
A number of known prenylated flavonoids were isolated from Psoralea corylifolia using an assay procedure based on inhibition of the mutagenic action of 2-aminoanthracene on Salmonella typhimurium (T-98). All of these compounds were toxic rather than antimutagenic or desmutagenic.

Plant Antimutagenic Agents, 3. Coumarins

Journal of Natural Products, 1988
Several coumarins were isolated from crude plant extracts by means of an antimutagenic assay procedure. These coumarins included psoralen from Psoralea corylifolia and imperatorin and osthol from Selinum monniere. Studies of structure-activity relationships of these and several other available coumarins were carried out with four mutagens.

Plant Antimutagenic Agents, 1. General Bioassay and Isolation Procedures

Journal of Natural Products, 1988
An antimutagenic assay in Salmonella typhimurium has been utilized for a study of the inhibition of the mutagenic activity of 2-aminoanthracene in the presence of the Ames S-9 metabolic activation preparation by crude organic solvent extracts of plant materials. More than 2000 extracts representing 39 families have been tested to date.

Umu test applied for screening natural antimutagenic agents

Food Chemistry, 2011
Antimutagenic activities of pure commercial chemicals and food supplements were compared with that of herb extracts using a method based on the umu test system for screening natural antimutagens. Of the 55 products investigated, 22 were commercial products, 12 were food supplements and 21 were aqueous and ethylic herb infusions. All commercial products

Effect of selected antimutagens on the genotoxicity of antitumor agents

Mutation Research/Fundamental and Molecular Mechanisms of Mutagenesis, 1998
Cyclophosphamide (CP), bleomycin (BL), doxorubicin (DOX) and cisplatin (CISP) are potent antitumor drugs used worldwide against many forms of human cancer. As with most such agents, there can be physiological side-effects and the possible induction of mutations and other genotoxic effects in non-tumor cells.

Antimutagenic activity of the novel antileukemic agents, avarone and avarol

Mutation Research Letters, 1985
The two antileukemic agents, avarone and avarol, were determined to be neither direct nor indirect mutagenic agents in the Ames microsomal test. Moreover, the two sesquiterpenoid compounds drastically reduced the mutagenic effect of benzo[a]pyrene in the same system.

Microbial Synthesized Ag/AgCl Nanoparticles Using Staphylococcus pasteuri sp. nov., ZAR1: Antimutagenicity, Antimicrobial Agent

Journal of Inorganic and Organometallic Polymers and Materials, 2021
This study investigated the microbial synthesis of Ag/AgCl nanoparticles, their mutagenicity, antimutagenicity and antibacterial effects. For this purpose, bacteria isolates were taken from soil samples of Zarshouran gold mine. One silver resistant bacterial strain was selected for the production of silver nanoparticles.

Plant Antimutagenic Agents 7. Structure and Antimutagenic Properties of Cymobarbatol and 4-Isocymbarbatol, New Cymopols from Green Alga (Cymopolia barbata)

Journal of Natural Products, 1989
Two new compounds, cymobarbatol and 4-isocymobarbatol, were isolated from the marine alga Cymopolia barbata. The complete structures and absolute stereochemistries of these compounds were elucidated by a variety of spectroscopic techniques and X-ray crystallography. Both compounds were found to be nontoxic over a broad concentration range to Salmonella

Naturally Occurring Phenolics as Antimutagenic and Anticarcinogenic Agents

1984
Epidemiological evidence points to an inverse relationship between the consumption of vegetables and the incidence of cancer at various sites (Hirayama, 1979, 1981; Graham et al., 1978; Mettlin et al., 1981). The search for the protective components in these vegetables has focused on B-carotene and vitamin A (e.g., Bjelke, 1975; Shekelle et al., 1981 ...
