Multimode Adaptive Thermoregulation Enabled by Shape Morphing and Radiative Cooling Porous Polyurethane

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A shape‐morphing, porous polyurethane film combines passive radiative cooling with folding to deliver multilevel heating‐and‐cooling control. High solar reflectance and midinfrared emissivity keep surfaces up to 3.5 °C cooler in direct sunlight, while photothermal triggering folds the film to absorb solar heat.

Antioxidant and Photo-antioxidant Activities of Phenylpropanoids

open access: yesJournal of the Japan Petroleum Institute, 2008
Phenylpropanoids are one of the metabolic products of phenylalanine and tyrosine. The antioxidant and photo- antioxidant activities were studied kinetically and along the metabolic pathway, to investigate the possibility of application to petrochemical products. The metabolites showed only slight photo-antioxidant activities, compared with a commercial

Existing antioxidant levels are more important in acclimation to supplemental UV-B irradiation than inducible ones: Studies with high light pretreated tobacco leaves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Greenhouse grown tobacco plants were exposed to supplemental ultraviolet irradiation (280-400 nm, UV-B centered) for 6 days and changes in their photosynthesis (gas exchange and electron transport) and general and specific antioxidant activities were ...

Extracorporeal Catalytic Hemoperfusion Therapy for Refractory Septic Shock Using Ceria Nanoparticle‐Embedded Porous Microbeads

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces an extracorporeal hemoperfusion system incorporating porous microbeads embedded with autocatalytic ceria nanoparticles (CeNPs) for targeted reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging in septic shock. The blood‐compatible hemoperfusion cartridge demonstrated significant improvements in survival, hemodynamic stability, and organ ...

Antioxidant activity of 4-methylcoumarins

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, 2007
Abstract Polyphenolic coumarins are known to act as antioxidants in biological systems, but it is difficult to distinguish their antioxidant activity from the many other effects they produce in cells. We have determined the radical scavenging capacity of 22 structurally related natural and synthetic 4-methylcoumarins, by measuring their ...

Photothermal Hydrogel with Mn3O4 Nanoparticles Alleviates Intervertebral Disc Degeneration by Scavenging ROS and Regulating Extracellular Matrix Metabolism

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The MPTT‐nanozyme‐hydrogel system (Mn3O4@ChS‐HA) provides a multifunctional therapeutic strategy for intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD), effectively targeting oxidative stress and enhancing AF repair by restoring extracellular matrix (ECM) and redox homeostasis.

Antioxidant Activity of Wine Pomace

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Enology and Viticulture, 1996
Extractable polyphenols and antioxidant activity of white and red grape pomaces were determined. Total extractable polyphenols assayed by the Folin-Ciocalteu method in white grape pomace (6.5%), skins (5.3%), and seeds (9.2%) were higher than those in red grapes: 2.2%, 2.1%, and 2.1%, respectively.

Plasma‐Treated Hydrogel for Combined RONS and Chemotherapy Delivery: A Proof‐of‐Concept In Ovo

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores plasma‐treated hydrogels (PTH) as a new way to deliver both reactive oxygen and nitrogen species and chemotherapy (Doxorubicin) directly to tumors. In ovo tests show effects after a single dose, especially in osteosarcoma tumors. Tumor weight decrease, and a resistance‐related protein is reduced.

A Review of the Antioxidant Activity of Celery (Apium graveolens L)

open access: yesJournal of Evidence-Based Complementary & Alternative Medicine, 2017
Plants are an important source of natural active products that are different, based on mechanism and biological properties. Celery (Apium graveolens L) is a plant from the apiaceae family and phenolic and antioxidant compounds of this plant have been ...
