Employing a digital single‐molecule activity tracker (dSMAT), this research demonstrates that high‐photon‐flux irradiation drives progressive oxidative scarring in polymerases. Unlike simple thermal denaturation, real‐time kinetic tracking dynamically visualizes enzymes degrading into multiple impaired subpopulations.

Diverse functions of antioxidants
Free Radical Research, 2000All biological organisms have developed a defense system against oxidative stress, which is comprised of many kinds of antioxidants. Antioxidants are classified by function into four categories; preventive antioxidants; radical scavenging antioxidants; repair and de novo antioxidants; and adaptation.

Antioxidant Functions of Ergothioneine
Reactive Oxygen Species, 2020The function of ergothioneine (EGT) has been in controversy since the discovery of EGT in 1909. The present common understanding is that the functions of EGT remain unclear and that EGT does not seem to provide any advantage over other antioxidants. In this study, the ultraviolet-absorption spectra of EGT were measured at various pH.

Antioxidant functions of phytic acid
Free Radical Biology and Medicine, 1990Phytic acid is a natural plant antioxidant constituting 1-5% of most cereals, nuts, legumes, oil seeds, pollen and spores. By virtue of forming a unique iron chelate it suppresses iron-catalyzed oxidative reactions and may serve a potent antioxidant function in the preservation of seeds. By the same mechanism dietary phytic acid may lower the incidence

Antioxidant functions of carotenoids
Free Radical Biology and Medicine, 1989Carotenoid pigments, including hydrocarbons such as beta-carotene or xanthophylls such as lutein and zeaxanthin, are very widely distributed in nature, where they play an important role in protecting cells and organisms against the harmful effects of light, air, and sensitizer pigments.
