Unravelling the Molecular Mechanisms of a Quercetin Nanocrystal for Treating Potential Parkinson’s Disease in a Rotenone Model: Supporting Evidence of Network Pharmacology and In Silico Data Analysis

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2023
The prevalence of Parkinson’s disease places a significant burden on society; therefore, there is an urgent need to develop more effective drugs. However, the development of these drugs is both expensive and risky.

Battery-free, stretchable, and autonomous smart packaging [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
In the food industry, innovative packaging solutions are increasingly important for reducing food waste and for contributing to global sustainability efforts. However, current food packaging is generally passive and unable to adapt to changes in the food environment in real-time.

The development of antioxidant system in the intestinal tract of broiler chickens

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2019
The gastrointestinal tract is the site for the uptake of nutrients from the external environment. We hypothesized that the antioxidant system in the intestinal tract has a vital protective role from the oxidative damage induced by oxidants in foods.

Peripheral blood proteome biomarkers distinguish immunosuppressive features of cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Immune status significantly influences cancer progression. This study used plasma proteomics to analyze benign 67NR and malignant 4T1 breast tumor models at early and late tumor stages. Immune‐related proteins–osteopontin (Spp1), lactotransferrin (Ltf), calreticulin (Calr) and peroxiredoxin 2 (Prdx2)–were associated with systemic myeloid‐derived ...

Melatonin Stimulates Activities and Expression Level of Antioxidant Enzymes and Preserves Functionality of Photosynthetic Apparatus in Hickory Plants (Carya cathayensis Sarg.) under PEG-Promoted Drought

open access: yesAgronomy, 2019
Nowadays, drought is one of the major abiotic factors which negatively affects growth and development of several fruit tree species, including Chinese hickory plants (Carya cathayensis Sarg.). The present investigation was conducted to study the possible

Effects of Desiccation on Metamorphic Climax in Bombina variegata: Changes in Levels and Patterns of Oxidative Stress Parameters

open access: yesAnimals, 2021
In this paper, we examined how the oxidative status (antioxidant system and oxidative damage) of Bombina variegata larvae changed during the metamorphic climax (Gosner stages: 42—beginning, 44—middle and 46—end) and compared the patterns and levels of ...

Understanding the Role of the Antioxidant System and the Tetrapyrrole Cycle in Iron Deficiency Chlorosis

open access: yesPlants, 2019
Iron deficiency chlorosis (IDC) is an abiotic stress often experienced by soybean, owing to the low solubility of iron in alkaline soils. Here, soybean lines with contrasting Fe efficiencies were analyzed to test the hypothesis that the Fe efficiency ...

TOMM20 as a driver of cancer aggressiveness via oxidative phosphorylation, maintenance of a reduced state, and resistance to apoptosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TOMM20 increases cancer aggressiveness by maintaining a reduced state with increased NADH and NADPH levels, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and apoptosis resistance while reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Conversely, CRISPR‐Cas9 knockdown of TOMM20 alters these cancer‐aggressive traits.

Large-Gap Two-Dimensional Topological Insulator in Oxygen Functionalized MXene [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. B 92, 075436 (2015), 2015
Two-dimensional (2D) topological insulator (TI) have been recognized as a new class of quantum state of matter. They are distinguished from normal 2D insulators with their nontrivial band-structure topology identified by the $Z_2$ number as protected by time-reversal symmetry (TRS). 2D TIs have intriguing spin-velocity locked conducting edge states and
