Antiplatelet therapy and anticoagulants

The Lancet, 2013
24 www.thelancet.com Vol 382 July 6, 2013 In the WOEST trial, Willem Dewilde and colleagues assess antithrombotic therapy for patients taking oral anticoagulants and receiving a coronary stent. They suggest that for patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention and receiving oral anticoagulants and clopidogrel, adding aspirin is harmful.

Aspirin as an Antiplatelet Agent

Archives of Internal Medicine, 1980
To the Editor. —There have been many studies relating the effect of aspirin prophylaxis on thromboembolisms. 1,2 Evaluation of the clinical data presented in them indicates that thromboembolic disease developed more rarely in men than in women under the identical dosage of aspirin given for prophylaxis against thromboembolism after hip surgery and ...

Antiplatelet therapy and exodontia

The Journal of the American Dental Association, 2015
This is a review of the management considerations regarding exodontia for patients taking antithrombotic medications that affect platelet function or aggregation. The authors reviewed the literature, focusing on the indications and mechanisms of antiplatelet therapy and the perioperative management of patients taking these agents who require exodontia ...

Antiplatelet Therapy

Platelets are a crucial component in the maintenance of normal haemostasis. In response to vascular damage, activated platelets adhere to the damaged endothelium leading to both aggregation and coagulation. Under healthy conditions, these processes prevent excessive vascular haemorrhage and promote vascular repair and regeneration.

Antiplatelet Therapy in Diabetes

Endocrinology and Metabolism Clinics of North America, 2018
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality among patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). Increased platelet reactivity among patients with DM contributes to disproportionately high levels of atherothrombotic CVD. Consequently, there has been tremendous interest in exploring the role of antiplatelet therapies in DM to ...

Antiplatelet effect of capsaicin

Thrombosis Research, 1984
Capsaicin was found to be a potent inhibitor of platelet aggregation and release reaction. It inhibited the aggregation of rat platelet induced by collagen and thrombin, but only slightly reduced those of AA and A23187. The IC50 on collagen-induced platelet aggregation was about 85 micrograms/ml.

Perioperative antiplatelet therapy.

American family physician, 2010
Aspirin is recommended as a lifelong therapy that should never be interrupted for patients with cardiovascular dis- ease. Clopidogrel therapy is mandatory for six weeks after placement of bare-metal stents, three to six months after myocardial infarction, and at least 12 months after placement of drug-eluting stents.

Aspirin as an Antiplatelet Drug

New England Journal of Medicine, 1994
The past 10 years have witnessed major changes in our understanding of the pathophysiologic mechanisms underlying vascular occlusion1,2 and considerable progress in the clinical assessment of aspirin and other antiplatelet agents3–5. The purpose of this review is to describe a rational basis for antithrombotic prophylaxis and treatment with aspirin ...

Novel antiplatelet therapy

American Heart Journal, 2010
Antiplatelet therapy is a cornerstone of the management of patients with acute coronary syndromes or for those undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention. As the intricacies of platelet biology and mechanisms of thrombus formation are revealed, novel antiplatelet therapies have emerged.
