Ticlopidine and Antiplatelet Therapy

Annals of Pharmacotherapy, 1993
OBJECTIVE: To review the pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, clinical efficacy, and toxicity of ticlopidine. Comparisons with other antiplatelet agents are presented, with an emphasis on efficacy, and a recommendation is provided regarding ticlopidine's place in therapy.

Advances in antiplatelet therapy

Expert Opinion on Emerging Drugs, 2003
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the western world. These disorders share a common pathophysiology -- atherosclerosis, which affects various arterial beds, leading to protean manifestations (coronary artery disease [CAD], stroke, peripheral arterial disease [PAD]).

Antiplatelet Therapy

Platelets are a crucial component in the maintenance of normal haemostasis. In response to vascular damage, activated platelets adhere to the damaged endothelium leading to both aggregation and coagulation. Under healthy conditions, these processes prevent excessive vascular haemorrhage and promote vascular repair and regeneration.

Monitoring of Antiplatelet Therapy

2023
In the late 1990s, the antithrombotic antiplatelet agent, clopidogrel, a P2Y12 inhibitor, was introduced. Around the same time, there was an increase in a number of new methods to measure platelet function (e.g., PFA-100 in 1995), and this has continued.

Advances in Antiplatelet Therapy

Hematology, 2011
Abstract Because of the central role of platelets in cardiovascular atherothrombosis, there is a well-established therapeutic role for antiplatelet therapy that includes aspirin (a cyclooxygenase 1 [COX1] inhibitor), clopidogrel (an antagonist of the ADP P2Y12 receptor), and the GPIIb-GPIIIa (αIIbβ3) antagonists. However, there remains a

Stents and Antiplatelet Therapy

2012
Coronary stents are used during the majority of percutaneous coronary interventions. When compared to medical therapy, they have been shown to decrease mortality for patients with acute coronary syndromes, and to improve symptom control in patients with stable angina.

Antiplatelet Therapy in Cerebrovascular Disorders

2012
Antiplatelet treatment is a mainstay in acute and long-term secondary stroke prevention. Aspirin is still most widely used worldwide, however, there is increasing evidence from small randomised trials that dual antiplatelet therapy combining aspirin with dipyridamole or clopidogrel might be more effective in the acute and early chronic post-ischemic ...
