Clinical Significance of Microembolic Signal Detection in Acute Ischemic Stroke: Insights Into Ongoing Cerebral Embolization and Occult Etiologies

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neurology, Volume 33, Issue 3, March 2026.
In this prospective study of anterior circulation AIS patients, microembolic signals (MES) were detected in 16% of cases, absent in lacunar stroke. MES presence was linked to multiple‐territory infarcts, newly diagnosed atrial fibrillation, and cancer‐associated stroke.

Viscoelastic haemostatic assays in chronic liver disease—Profiling coagulation in the emergency department

open access: yesVox Sanguinis, Volume 121, Issue 3, Page 309-321, March 2026.
Abstract Background and Objectives The role of viscoelastic haemostatic assays (VHAs) versus conventional coagulation tests (CCTs) in chronic liver disease (CLD) in the emergency department (ED) is undefined. We aimed to characterize VHA profiles and concordance with CCT.

Expression of Human Thrombomodulin Prevents Early Thrombocytopenia and Thrombotic Microangiopathy in Pig‐to‐Nonhuman Primate Orthotopic Liver Xenotransplantation

open access: yesXenotransplantation, Volume 33, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
Abstract Background Severe thrombocytopenia and coagulation dysregulation remain major barriers to survival in pig‐to‐primate liver xenotransplantation models. Methods Porcine livers with five genetic modifications (GTKO, CMAHKO, β4GalNT2KO, hCD55, and hTBM) were orthotopically transplanted into four Tibetan macaques under two conventional ...
