Perspectives on functions of AOX and UCP in floral thermogenesis [PDF]

open access: yesSCIENTIA SINICA Vitae, 2020
Some plants can produce a considerable amount of heat in flowers. The animal-like thermogenesis plays various roles in multiple biological processes, which is critical in reproduction of plants. Great attention has been drawn to explore floral thermogenesis and the underlying regulatory mechanisms.

Identification and characterization of aldehyde oxidases (AOXs) in the cotton bollworm [PDF]

open access: yesThe Science of Nature, 2017
Aldehyde oxidases (AOXs) are a family of metabolic enzymes that oxidize aldehydes into carboxylic acids; therefore, they play critical roles in detoxification and degradation of chemicals. By using transcriptomic and genomic approaches, we successfully identified six putative AOX genes (HarmAOX1-6) from cotton bollworm, Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner ...

Generation, Transfer, and Loss of Alternative Oxidase Paralogues in the Aspergillaceae Family

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2023
Alternative oxidase (Aox) is a terminal oxidase operating in branched electron transport. The activity correlates positively with overflow metabolisms in certain Aspergilli, converting intracellular glucose by the shortest possible path into organic ...

Kinetics of AOX Formation in Chlorine Dioxide Bleaching of Bagasse Pulp

open access: yesBioResources, 2014
In this paper, a kinetic model of the first chlorine dioxide bleaching stage (D0) in an elemental chlorine-free (ECF) bleaching sequence is presented for bagasse pulps. The model is based on the rate of adsorbable organic halogen (AOX) formation.

Metal nanostructure‐coupled label‐free localized surface plasmon resonance biosensors for rapid and sensitive disease diagnosis

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
LSPR biosensing enables rapid, sensitive, and low‐sample‐volume detection of biomarkers, with broad applications in diagnosing cancer, infectious, and chronic diseases. Advances in nanostructure design, micro/nanofabrication, and microfluidic integration have expanded the potential of LSPR sensors in biomedical diagnostics.

Inhibition of alternative oxidase disrupts the development and oviposition of Biomphalaria glabrata snails

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2023
Background Biomphalaria glabrata is one of the main intermediate hosts of Schistosoma mansoni, the most widespread species of Schistosoma. Our previous studies proved that alternative oxidase (AOX), the terminal oxidase in the mitochondrial respiratory ...

STAT5 activators modulate acyl CoA oxidase (AOX) expression in adipocytes and STAT5A binds to the AOX promoter in vitro

open access: yesBiochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2006
Growth hormone (GH) diminishes adipose tissue mass in vivo and prolactin (PRL) can also modulate adipocyte metabolism. Both GH and PRL are potent activators of STAT5 and exert a variety of effects on adipocyte gene expression. In this study, we have demonstrated that GH and PRL increase the mRNA of acyl CoA oxidase in 3T3-L1 adipocytes.

Sensitivity of Irish Pyrenopeziza brassicae populations to methyl benzimidazole carbamate (MBC), quinone outside inhibitor (QoI) and succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor (SDHI) fungicides

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
For three collections of Irish Pyrenopeziza brassicae populations fungicide sensitivity status to methyl benzimidazole carbamate (MBC), quinone outside inhibitor (QoI) and succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor (SDHI) fungicides was determined using sensitivity screening in vitro. Molecular mechanisms of insensitivity have been identified for MBC and QoI in
