Considerations of AOX Functionality Revealed by Critical Motifs and Unique Domains [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2018
An understanding of the genes and mechanisms regulating environmental stress in crops is critical for boosting agricultural yield and safeguarding food security. Under adverse conditions, response pathways are activated for tolerance or resistance.

Black flesh disorder in mango: a chilling injury symptom increased by early harvest and low storage temperature and reduced by 1‐methylcyclopropene

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Volume 106, Issue 11, Page 6508-6522, 30 August 2026.
Abstract BACKGROUND Black flesh (BF) is an internal disorder in mango, characterized by the development of dark brown to black pigmentation in the inner mesocarp tissue during storage or transport. This study investigated the effects of harvest maturity, low storage or low transport temperatures, and 1‐methylcyclopropene (1‐MCP) on mango fruit ...

Thioredoxin system modulates metabolic and stomatal responses to elevated CO2 in Arabidopsis

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 251, Issue 4, Page 1774-1791, August 2026.
Integrative model of extraplastidial NADPH‐dependent thioredoxin reductase/thioredoxin system‐mediated regulation of stomatal function, redox homeostasis, and metabolic responses under ambient and elevated CO2 in Arabidopsis thaliana. Summary The NADPH‐dependent thioredoxin reductase/thioredoxin (NTR/TRX) system plays a central role in maintaining ...

PO-13 SEX DIFFERENCES IN VASCULAR FUNCTION FOLLOWING ANTIOXIDANT SUPPLEMENTATION

open access: yesArtery Research, 2016
Objectives: Sex differences in cardiovascular disease risk and progression are well established. Estrogen loss following menopause leads to vascular dysfunction, potentially due to elevations in oxidative stress and subsequent decrements in nitric oxide.

Alternative oxidase‐mediated respiration prevents lethal mitochondrial cardiomyopathy

open access: yesEMBO Molecular Medicine, 2018
Alternative oxidase (AOX) is a non‐mammalian enzyme that can bypass blockade of the complex III‐IV segment of the respiratory chain (RC). We crossed a Ciona intestinalis AOX transgene into RC complex III (cIII)‐deficient Bcs1lp.S78G knock‐in mice ...

Antioxidants in Plant‐Based Food Matrices: From Structure–Activity and Degradation Kinetics to Formulation Design

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 25, Issue 4, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Plant‐based antioxidants are widely incorporated into foods to retard oxidative deterioration and to deliver health‐related benefits. Yet, their in‐product and in vivo performance frequently diverges from predictions based on solution‐phase chemical assays, because matrix interactions, processing history, and host metabolism reshape both ...

Developmental arrest in Drosophila melanogaster caused by mitochondrial DNA replication defects cannot be rescued by the alternative oxidase

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
The xenotopic expression of the alternative oxidase AOX from the tunicate Ciona intestinalis in diverse models of human disease partially alleviates the phenotypic effects of mitochondrial respiratory chain defects.

Genome-wide identification and analysis of the ALTERNATIVE OXIDASE gene family in diploid and hexaploid wheat.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
A comprehensive understanding of wheat responses to environmental stress will contribute to the long-term goal of feeding the planet. ALERNATIVE OXIDASE (AOX) genes encode proteins involved in a bypass of the electron transport chain and are also known ...

Anaerobic and Aerobic Treatment for AOX Removal

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 1994
A two-year study has focused on AOX removal from bleaching wastewaters in anaerobic and aerobic biological treatment, using bench scale bioreactors operated in parallel and in series. Significantly higher removals have been found in anaerobic than in aerobic treatment.

Contamination of Bathing Waters with Trihalomethanes in Slovenia

open access: yesZdravniški Vestnik, 2015
THM and AOX compounds form as by-products of disinfection with the use of chlorine. THM compounds can pose problems for pool water, while AOX compounds can be problematic for waste water.
