AOX in parasitic nematodes – a matter of lifestyle?

2016
Research on AOX in nematodes is scarce. Within our research group, we aim to confirm the existence of alternative oxidase in nematodes and explore its involvement in the animal’s metabolism related to its lifestyle (including plant attacks). Here we present our hypothesis that the presence of this gene family in nematodes is a function of their ...

Therapeutic Role of Antioxidants (AOX) in the Treatment of Infertility

2017
Infertility affects approximately 15 % of couples worldwide [1]. During normal cellular metabolism, reactive oxygen species (ROS) are generated on a continuous basis, either by endogenous sources (see Chap. 1) or exogenous sources (see Chap. 5). ROS are essential for many processes in the human body, including essential intracellular signaling pathways

Progress in reducing dioxins and AOX: A Canadian perspective

Chemosphere, 1998
Abstract The results of a series of surveys carried out annually over the past six years indicate that dioxins effluent discharges from the bleached chemical pulping sector have been reduced to approximately 2 g/y, and the national average AOX on pulp to 0.9 kg/adt, reductions of 99 % and 81 % respectively since 1988.

A Step-by-Step Protocol for Classifying AOX Proteins in Flowering Plants

2017
The potential of alternative oxidase (AOX) genes to develop functional markers for plant breeding programs has been emphasized. In this sense, it is essential to have a reliable classification system, which could aid in the selection of candidate AOX genes from different species.

Artificial intelligence for the detection of AOX functional markers

2016
Functional markers were defined in 2003 by Andersen and Lubberstedt as “markers derived from polymorphic sites within genes causally involved in phenotypic trait variation”. The starting point for development of a FM is to sequence a gene with known function to obtain polymorphic sequences.
