Fruit respiration: putting alternative pathways into perspective
Summary Over the past century, research has significantly advanced our understanding of fruit respiration, from (eco)physiological processes to molecular mechanisms. This review focuses on the functional relevance and regulatory roles of mitochondrial alternative respiratory pathways (ARPs) during fruit growth and ripening.

Designing the Future of Food: Challenges to Innovation in Microalgae‐Derived Blue Protein Systems
This image illustrates the key factors in protein extraction from microalgae, along with the main sustainability opportunities and associated risks. ABSTRACT Microalgae are emerging as promising sources of “blue proteins,” a term used to categorize aquatic proteins derived from marine and freshwater organisms.

ABSTRACT Phytoene desaturase (PDS; EC 1.3.5.5) is a key enzyme of the carotenoid biosynthetic pathway, catalyzing the desaturation of phytoene, precursor of all carotenoids. In this study, several PDS‐knockout (PDS‐KO) transformants of the chlorophyte microalga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii were generated using a reverse genetics strategy. Two single guide

Molecular insights into volatile organic compound sensing and signaling in plants
SUMMARY Plants interact with their surrounding environment through the perception of a vast and structurally diverse array of volatile organic compounds (VOCs); however, the molecular mechanisms involved remain mostly unknown. Despite the large number of VOCs emitted and perceived by plants, only a small number of phylogenetically distinct, but often ...

The SIAMESE family of cell-cycle inhibitors in the response of plants to environmental stresses
Environmental abiotic constraints are known to reduce plant growth. This effect is largely due to the inhibition of cell division in the leaf and root meristems caused by perturbations of the cell cycle machinery.
