Concerted Proton and Electron Transfer in Heterogeneous Electrocatalytic CO2 Reduction

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Concerted proton‐electron transfer (CPET) enables CO2‐to‐CO conversion with significantly reduced energy cost compared to cation‐stabilized pathways. Under controlled mass transport of proton donors, CPET dominates at modest potentials. At higher overpotentials, a cation‐stabilized pathway is found to dominate.

Molecular dynamics study of solvation effects on acid dissociation in aprotic media

open access: yes, 1996
Acid ionization in aprotic media is studied using Molecular Dynamics techniques. In particular, models for HCl ionization in acetonitrile and dimethylsulfoxide are investigated.

Hydrothermal Reactions of Biomass-Derived Platform Molecules: Distinct Effect of Aprotic and Protic Solvents on Primary Decomposition of Glucose and Fructose in Hot-Compressed Solvent/Water Mixtures

open access: yesIndustrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2020
The study compares the effects of aprotic (i.e., gamma-valerolactone, acetone and 1,4-dioxane) and protic (i.e., methanol and ethanol) solvents on the primary decomposition reactions of glucose and...

The Role of Ionic Liquids at the Biological Interfaces in Bioelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Ionic liquids (ILs) are highlighted as key artificial ionic materials that bridge biological ion‐based signaling and electronic devices. By understanding their composition, structure, function relationships, and mechanisms, ILs can advance from high performance electrolyte to core materials enabling integrated, multifunctional bioelectronics for ...

The Far Side of Carboranes: Anticancer Active Monocations and Ambiently Stable Dications

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
This work describes the synthesis of bench‐stable dicationic carboranes. Their enhanced electrophilicity is documented by opening the clusters with weak nucleophiles or dihydrogen. The surprising stability of positively charged carboranes in water enabled a study of their in vitro antiproliferative activity, which surpassed the effects of doxorubicin ...

Natural Sulfide Minerals as Electrode Materials for Electrochemical Analysis in Dipolar Aprotic Solvents

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2018
Dipolar aprotic solvents are compounds with the relative permittivity higher than 15 and a dipole moment greater than 2 D. Solvents of this type are applied in the field of kinetic, catalytic and electrochemical studies.

Solvent effects on photodegradation of CI Reactive Orange 16 by simulated solar light [PDF]

open access: yesHemijska Industrija, 2008
Organic solvents may appear in wastewaters and other industrial waste streams containing dyes, therefore, their photodegradation catalyzed by TiO2 should be investigated.

Preyssler Heteropolyacids in the Self-Etherification of 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural to 5,5′-[Oxybis(methylene)]bis-2-furfural Under Mild Reaction Conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The synthesis of 5,5′-[oxybis(methylene)]bis-2-furfural (OBMF) from 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) was studied using bulk and alumina-supported Preyssler heteropolyacids (HPAs). The formation of OBMF was related to the amount of Brønsted acid sites, and
