Altered responses to ghrelin and food cues in AgRP neurons during pregnancy and lactation
Abstract Pregnancy and lactation trigger many metabolic adaptations, including increased food intake to support the energy demands of the growing foetus and then to provide nutrition through milk production after birth. Ghrelin, an orexigenic hormone, activates agouti related peptide (AgRP) neurons in the arcuate nucleus to promote food intake.

Abstract Disorders of gonadotropin pulsatility contribute to reproductive dysfunction in humans and are often associated with metabolic dysfunction. Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism is characterized by chronically insufficient gonadotropin hormone production, leading to reproductive and metabolic impairments, such as infertility and obesity.

Abstract figure legend Central leptin signalling blockade induces early metabolic dysfunction. Intracerebroventricular infusion of a leptin receptor antagonist (SLA) in rats disrupts hypothalamic leptin signalling, leading to reduced signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) activation, decreased Socs3 and Pomc expression, and ...

Multinodal regulation of the arcuate/paraventricular nucleus circuit by leptin
Melanocortin-4 receptor (MC4R) is critical for energy homeostasis, and the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus (PVN) is a key site of MC4R action.

The role of insulin receptor substrate 2 in hypothalamic and β cell function [PDF]
Insulin receptor substrate 2 (Irs2) plays complex roles in energy homeostasis. We generated mice lacking Irs2 in β cells and a population of hypothalamic neurons (RIPCreIrs2KO), in all neurons (NesCreIrs2KO), and in proopiomelanocortin neurons ...
