An alternative approach to calculating Area‐Under‐the‐Curve (AUC) in delay discounting research

Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, 2016
Applied to delay discounting data, Area‐Under‐the‐Curve (AUC) provides an atheoretical index of the rate of delay discounting. The conventional method of calculating AUC, by summing the areas of the trapezoids formed by successive delay‐indifference point pairings, does not account for the fact that most delay discounting tasks scale delay ...

An evaluation of numerical integration algorithms for the estimation of the area under the curve (AUC) in pharmacokinetic studies

Biopharmaceutics and Drug Disposition, 1995
AbstractSix numerical integration algorithms based on linear and log trapezoidal methods as well as four cubic‐spline methods were proposed for estimation of area under the curve (AUC). These six different algorithms were implemented using IMSL/IDLTM command language and evaluated using data simulated under five different dosing conditions and two ...

Optimum numerical integration methods for estimation of area-under-the-curve (AUC) and area-under-the-moment-curve (AUMC)

Journal of Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics, 1992
Eleven numerical methods for estimation of AUC (including 4 new methods) and 22 methods for AUMC (including 8 new methods) were tested on large simulated noisy datasets representing bolus, oral and infusion concentration-time profiles. Some methods were unacceptable because their mean error was large; these included a commonly recommended form of the ...

Evaluating Performance of Software Defect Prediction Models Using Area Under Precision-Recall Curve (AUC-PR)

2019 2nd International Conference on Advancements in Computational Sciences (ICACS), 2019
Software defect prediction (SDP) models are used to improve effort and testing estimate of software by identifying defective modules beforehand. Precision, recall/true positive rate and false positive rate have been used to evaluate the performance of models.

Application of Hill's equation for estimating area under the concentration-time curve (AUC) and use of time to AUC 90% for expressing kinetics of drug disposition

Journal of Pharmacological and Toxicological Methods, 2009
Half life and its derived pharmacokinetic parameters are calculated on an assumption that the terminal phase of drug disposition follows a constant rate of disposition. In reality, this assumption may not necessarily be the case. A new method is needed for analyzing PK parameters if the disposition does not follow a first order PK kinetic.Cumulative ...

Doing More With Less: Pragmatic Implementation of Vancomycin Area-Under-the-Curve (AUC) Monitoring

Journal of Pharmacy Practice, 2021
Universal area-under-the-curve (AUC) guided vancomycin therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) is resource-intensive, cost-prohibitive, and presents a paradigm shift that leaves institutions with the quandary of defining the preferred and most practical method for TDM.

CYCLOSPORIN A (CyA) MONITOrING BY CALCULATION OF AREA UNDER THE CURVE (AUC)

Nephrology, 2000
Background The introduction of CyA resulted in a significant prolongation in renal transplant survival but was complicated by the difficulty in distinguishing between transplant rejection and drug toxicity. More recently the conversion of stable transplant recipients to the microemulsion form of CyA resulted in significant nephrotoxicity at trough ...

Bias and variance of extrapolated tails for area-under-the-curve (AUC) and area-under-the-moment-curve (AUMC)

Journal of Pharmacokinetics and Biopharmaceutics, 1992
The usual formulas for the extrapolated values of AUC and AUMC from tn to infinity produce estimates that are biased. An empirical correction factor is shown to reduce both bias and variance of estimates. The fitted value Cz at the last time-point tn should normally be used in the formulas, rather than the measured concentration Cn.

Evaluating the Safety of Trough Versus Area Under the Curve (AUC)-Based Dosing Method of Vancomycin With Concomitant Piperacillin-Tazobactam

Journal of Pharmacy Technology, 2022
Background: Vancomycin and piperacillin-tazobactam (VPT) is a common antibiotic combination used in hospitals, and there has been increasing data indicating that the combination is associated with increased rates of acute kidney injury (AKI). It is unclear if the dosing method of vancomycin would mitigate the risk of AKI seen with VPT.

A LIMITED SAMPLING METHOD FOR THE ESTIMATION OF FLUNARIZINE AREA UNDER THE CURVE (AUC) AND MAXIMUM PLASMA CONCENTRATION (CMAX)

Biopharmaceutics & Drug Disposition, 1997
A limited sampling model has been developed for flunarizine following a 30 mg oral dose in epileptic patients who were receiving phenytoin or carbamazepine or both, to estimate the area under the curve (AUC) and maximum plasma concentration (Cmax).
