Aspects of larval feeding of two autochthonous species of shrimp, Penaeus kerathurus (Forskål, 1775) and Palaemon serratus (Pennant, 1777), were studied. For P. kerathurus, feeding rates on Chlorella sp. and Isochrysis galbana Parke were determined at 3

Intercalibration of ecotoxicity testing protocols with Artemia franciscana
The brine shrimp, Artemia spp., is widely used in ecotoxicology as a target biological model. Although several protocols were available in the early 1980s, only the 24-h acute mortality toxicity test was evaluated in a European intercalibration exercise during that period.

Orius laevigatus engages in unidirectional intraguild predation on Transeius montdorensis. Despite this, both predators coexisted and suppressed the shared thrips prey. Aphids, a non‐shared prey, were effectively controlled by O. laevigatus even when its population was limited due to intraguild predation. T.

Palladium(II) complexes (1–6) with Schiff bases (HL1–HL6) were synthesized and characterized using different spectroscopic methods. The molecular structures of ligands HL1, HL3, HL6 and complexes 1, 2, 3, 6 were determined by X‐ray diffraction analysis. The toxicity of the compounds was assessed on both plant and animal cells.

ABSTRACT Given the growing concern over the environmental impacts of industrial effluents, particularly from tanneries, assessing the ecotoxicological risks associated with these effluents, even after remediation treatments, is crucial. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the potential effects of exposure to raw and treated tannery effluents with ...

Sexual conflict as a constraint on asexual reproduction: an empirical review
ABSTRACT Theory predicts that facultatively asexual animals, which can leverage the advantages of both sexual and asexual reproduction, should outcompete obligately sexual and obligately asexual animals. Yet, paradoxically, obligate sexual reproduction predominates in many animal lineages, while the most flexible form of facultative asexuality (i.e ...

Specific quorum sensing-disrupting activity (A(QSI)) of thiophenones and their therapeutic potential [PDF]
Disease caused by antibiotic resistant pathogens is becoming a serious problem, both in human and veterinary medicine. The inhibition of quorum sensing, bacterial cell-to-cell communication, is a promising alternative strategy to control disease. In this
