Substandard and Falsified Medicines, Regulatory Capacity and Public Health: A Narrative Review With a Focus on Africa

open access: yesPublic Health Challenges, Volume 5, Issue 3, September 2026.
Weak medicines regulation in Africa enables the circulation of substandard and falsified medicines, undermining treatment outcomes, accelerating antimicrobial resistance and eroding public trust. This narrative review synthesised 38 studies from 2000 to 2025, highlighting regulatory gaps, public health harms and regional disparities.

Artemisinin: A Panacea Eligible for Unrestrictive Use?

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2017
Although artemisinin has been used as anti-malarial drug, accumulating evidence on the extended therapeutic potential of artemisinin emerges. Apart from anti-malaria and anti-tumor, artemisinin can also exert beneficial effects on some metabolic ...

The consequences of artemisinin resistance in falciparum malaria [PDF]

open access: yesMalaria Journal, 2012

Targeting m6A Modifications Regulating Ferroptosis Offers Novel Therapy in Diseases

open access: yesCell Proliferation, Volume 59, Issue 9, September 2026.
m6A RNA modification regulates ferroptosis by balancing iron metabolism, lipid peroxidation, and antioxidant defenses. Dysregulated m6A signaling disrupts pro‐ and anti‐ferroptotic factors, leading to excess ROS, Fe3+ accumulation, and lipid peroxidation–driven cell death. Targeting m6A‐mediated ferroptotic regulation represents a promising therapeutic

Age‐Related and Seasonal Variation in Malaria and Other Causes of Fever and Their Association With Clinical Outcomes in Southern Angola: A Hospital‐Based Study

open access: yesTropical Medicine &International Health, Volume 31, Issue 9, Page 1273-1283, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Acute febrile illnesses in sub‐Saharan Africa are often attributed to malaria, yet many patients test negative for malaria parasites. The aetiology of nonmalarial fevers remains understudied. Here, we examine likely causes of febrile illnesses and their association with poor clinical outcomes in Angola.

Identification of Novel Therapeutic Agent Candidates Through High Throughput Screening With Chemical Library Based on Molecular Subclassification in Canine Histiocytic Sarcoma Cell Lines

open access: yesVeterinary and Comparative Oncology, Volume 24, Issue 3, Page 554-567, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Effective chemotherapy for canine histiocytic sarcoma (CHS) has yet to be established. In our previous study, CHS cell lines were subclassified into two groups based on their gene expression profiles: Group A and Group B. This study aimed to identify novel therapeutic agents that are effective against each CHS subgroup, and we performed high ...

Routine delivery of artemisinin-based combination treatment at fixed health facilities reduces malaria prevalence in Tanzania: an observational study. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
: BACKGROUND: Artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT) has been promoted as a means to reduce malaria transmission due to their ability to kill both asexual blood stages of malaria parasites, which sustain infections over long periods and the immature

Development of artemisinin resistance in malaria therapy

open access: yesPharmacological Research, 2019
Malaria affects 200 million people worldwide. Today, the most successful treatments are artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACT). Resistance has already been described for the elder anti-malarials chloroquine, sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine and mefloquine.

Rapid microarray-based method for monitoring of all currently known single-nucleotide polymorphisms associated with parasite resistance to antimalaria drugs. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Parasite drug resistance is partly conferred by single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), and monitoring them has been proposed as an alternative to monitoring drug resistance.
