Experimental and Finite Element Studies of Acetabular Cement Pressurisation and Socket Fixation in Total Hip Replacement

open access: yes, 1997
PhDWith time, the rate of symptomatic acetabular component loosening accelerates and overtakes that of the femoral component as the principal reason for the revision of total hip replacement.

Osteoarthritis: Epidemiology, Diagnosis, and Treatment

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 7, July 2026.
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a multifactorial degenerative joint disease and a leading cause of disability worldwide. This graphical abstract summarizes the epidemiology, diagnostic strategies, and therapeutic approaches of OA. OA development is driven by aging, metabolic dysregulation, and mechanical stress, leading to progressive joint degeneration ...

Tcirg1 deficiency delays osteoarthritis progression by impairing lysosome acidification and peripheral accumulation in osteoclasts

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology
IntroductionOsteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic degenerative joint disease characterized by articular cartilage loss and aberrant subchondral bone remodeling.

A New Stage and Classification of Osteonecrosis of the Femoral Head Based on MRI With Pathophysiological Interpretation

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 18, Issue 7, Page 1448-1458, July 2026.
An MRI‐based classification system integrating fibrosis extent (F1–F3) and inflammatory bone marrow edema activity (E0–E3) was developed for osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH). Increasing fibrosis and edema severity were associated with higher collapse risk, worse pain, and poorer hip function.

Retinoic Acid‐Related Orphan Nuclear Receptor Alpha Promotes Cartilage Degeneration in Osteoarthritis by Activating the Wnt/β‐Catenin Pathway

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 11, 15 June 2026.
During the development of OA, elevated RORα in chondrocytes inhibits β‐catenin degradation in the cytoplasm by activating the Wnt/β‐catenin signaling pathway. When β‐catenin protein accumulates excessively in the cytoplasm, it is transferred to the nucleus and binds to the cytosolic TCF/LEF transcriptional complex, which activates downstream target ...

Knee osteoarthritis patients with severe nocturnal pain have altered proximal tibial subchondral bone mineral density

open access: yes, 2015
SummaryObjectiveOur objective was to investigate relationships between proximal tibial subchondral bone mineral density (BMD) and nocturnal pain in patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA).MethodsThe preoperative knee of 42 patients booked for knee ...

Intraosseous Bioplasty for a Subchondral Cyst in the Lateral Condyle of Femur

open access: yes, 2020
Several conditions can lead to the development of a subchondral cyst. The mechanism by which the cysts form, their location, and their severity depend on the underlying pathology, although the exact pathogenesis is not fully elucidated. Treatment options

Radiographic changes and clinical results of osteochondral defects of the talus with and without subchondral cysts

open access: yes, 2006
BACKGROUND: Subchondral cysts are a type of osteochondral defect of the talus and can be a source of chronic ankle pain. The treatment modality of this cystic lesion is similar to that of other osteochondral defects, but results from previous reports are

Surgical Preparation for Articular Cartilage Regeneration Without Penetration of the Subchondral Bone Plate

open access: yes, 2011
Background: To prevent hemorrhage, fibrin clot formation, and subsequent activation of the inflammatory response, surgical preparation for articular cartilage regeneration should avoid penetration of the subchondral bone plate.
