Robotics & Artificial Intelligence for Explosive Ordnance Disposal

open access: yes, 2022
Recent armed conflicts (Ukraine, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria) have seen a dramatic rise in the use of EOs (Explosive Ordnance), specifically IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) and landmines by adversaries, often resulting in casualties from EU and NATO member states.

Intermediate Resistive State in Wafer‐Scale Vertical MoS2 Memristors Through Lateral Silver Filament Growth for Artificial Synapse Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In MOCVD MoS2 memristors, a current compliance‐regulated Ag filament mechanism is revealed. The filament ruptures spontaneously during volatile switching, while subsequent growth proceeds vertically through the MoS2 layers and then laterally along the van der Waals gaps during nonvolatile switching.

Liability for Autonomous and Artificially Intelligent Robots

open access: yesPaladyn, Journal of Behavioral Robotics, 2018
Abstract In the backdrop of increasingly intelligent machines, important issues of law have been raised by the use of robots that operate autonomous from human supervisory control. In particular, when systems operating with autonomous robot’s damage property or injure humans, it may be difficult to determinewho’s at fault and therefore ...

Actuating and Sensing Composites of Liquid Crystal Elastomers and Poly(ionic liquid)s

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic conductive, mechanically tough, flexible, and stretchable filaments of a composite material comprising a liquid crystal elastomer and a poly(ionic liquid) are produced through 3D printing, which exhibit large actuation strain under stimulation and electrical resistance variation in response to deformation or environmental condition changes. Their
