Binding profile of Artocarpus integrifolia agglutinin (Jacalin)

Life Sciences, 2003
Artocarpus integrifolia agglutinin (Jacalin) from the seeds of jack fruits has attracted considerable attention for its diverse biological activities and has been recognized as a Galbeta1-->3GalNAc (T) specific lectin. In previous studies, the information of its binding was limited to the inhibition results of monosaccharides and several T related ...

Oral allergy syndrome to jackfruit (Artocarpus integrifolia)

Allergy, 1997
A 30‐year‐old man from the Philippines with pollen allergy noted the appearance of oral allergy syndrome (OAS) after eating raw apple, raw peach, raw celery, and, recently, jackfruit (Artocarpus integrifolia), a tropical fruit which belongs to the Moraceae family (mulberry) and to the genus Artocarpus (breadfruit tree).

Ricinoleic acid inArtocarpus integrifolia seed oil

Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1989
AbstractSeed oil ofArtocarpus integrifolia syn.Artocarpus heterophyllus belonging to the Moraceae family contains a small amount of ricinoleic acid (7.2%). The identification was made on the basis of TLC, IR, NMR, MS and chemical degradation. The major components of the oil are linoleic acid (40.2% and palmitic acid (30.2%).

A crude extract of Artocarpus integrifolia contains two lectins with distinct biological activities

Immunology Letters, 1992
The crude extract derived from seeds of Artocarpus integrifolia (jack fruit) contains two fractions with different biological activities for lymphocytes. One fraction is the D-galactose-binding lectin, jacalin, obtained by affinity purification on a D-galactose agarose column.

Structural and thermodynamic studies of KM+, a d-mannose binding lectin from Artocarpus integrifolia seeds

Biophysical Chemistry, 1999
The KM+ lectin exhibits a novel and unusual circular dichroism (CD) spectrum that could be explained by a high proline content that would be inducing deformation of the beta-structure and/or unusual turns. KM+ was shown to be a very rigid lectin, which was very stable under a broad variety of conditions (urea, guanidine, hydrolysis, pH, etc.).

cDNA cloning and functional expression of KM+, the mannose-binding lectin from Artocarpus integrifolia seeds

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 2005
KM+, a mannose-binding lectin present in the seeds of Artocarpus integrifolia, has interesting biological properties and potential pharmaceutical use [A. Panunto-Castelo, M.A. Souza, M.C. Roque-Barreira, J.S. Silva, KM(+), a lectin from Artocarpus integrifolia, induces IL-12 p40 production by macrophages and switches from type 2 to type 1 cell-mediated

Morphological and Biochemical Changes in a Hematopoietic Cell Line Induced by Jacalin, a Lectin Derived from Artocarpus integrifolia

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1995
Treatment of the human erythroleukemia cell line K562 with the galactose-binding lectin, jacalin, results in rapid and profound alterations in the morphology and biochemistry of the cells. Within minutes of lectin addition, the cells adhere to the plastic tissue culture surface, and within hours, the cells spread on the surface, acquiring a monocyte ...

Interaction of sugar stabilized silver nanoparticles with the T-antigen specific lectin, jacalin from Artocarpus integrifolia

Spectrochimica Acta Part A: Molecular and Biomolecular Spectroscopy, 2015
The advances in nanomedicine demonstrate the anticancer properties of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and considered as an alternative to the available chemotherapeutic agents. Owing to the preferential interaction of Artocarpus integrifolia lectin (jacalin) with Galβ1-3GalNAcα (a chemically well-defined tumor associated antigen), a study was undertaken ...

Subcellular distribution of jacalin in Artocarpus integrifolia seed.

Cytobios, 1997
Seeds of Artocarpus integrifolia (jack fruit) contain large amounts of the anti-T lectin, jacalin. The mature seeds of jack fruit were homogenized in 0.25 M sucrose and separated by differential centrifugation into four fractions, viz wall, intermediate, and microsomal pellets and soluble supernatant.
