Activation of T and B cells by a crude extract of Artocarpus integrifolia is mediated by a lectin distinct from jacalin

Journal of Immunological Methods, 1991
The biological activities previously described for a crude extract derived from seeds of Artocarpus integrifolia (jack fruit) are shown in the present work to be assigned to two distinct fractions present in this extract. One fraction is the D-galactose binding lectin, jacalin, obtained by affinity purification on a D-galactose Sepharose column.

Homology of the d-galactose-specific lectins from Artocarpus integrifolia and Maclura pomifera and the role of an unusual small polypeptide subunit

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1989
The Maclura pomifera agglutinin (MPA) was purified by affinity chromatography from a seed extract and its properties were compared with those of the Artocarpus integrifolia lectin, jacalin. Reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography showed both proteins had multiple forms of a small approximately 20-residue polypeptide chain in addition to ...

Characterisation of a trypsin/chymotrypsin inhibitor from jack fruit (Artocarpus integrifolia) seeds

Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, 1991
AbstractJack fruit seed (Artocarpus integrifolia Hook f) trypsin inhibitor (JSTI) was found to be rich in acidic amino acids and devoid of free thiol groups. The N‐terminal and C‐terminal amino acids of JSTI were aspartic acid and scrine, respectively.

Artocarpus integrifolia lectin(s): use and applications in chromosome studies of lymphocyte cultures.

Cytobios, 1983
A simple procedure for extracting a lectin from the seeds of the jackfruit, Artocarpus integrifolia, is described. The extracts had an average protein concentration of 13.3 mg/ml, and were strongly erythroagglutinating with a 10(6) titre. Erythroagglutination was shown to be non-specific for A1-B-0 erythrocytes.

The α-galactosyl specific lectin from Artocarpus integrifolia distinguishes between two lymphoma lines with different metastatic potential

Biochemistry and Cell Biology, 1997
A lectin purified from the seeds of the Vietnamese Artocarpus integrifolia distinguishes between the mouse T-cell lymphoma cell lines Eb and ESb, with low and high metastatic potential, respectively. It agglutinates Eb cells as well as human erythrocytes, but not ESb cells or the human colon carcinomas cells HT29.

[Production of lectin from jack fruit (Artocarpus integrifolia) seeds and its interaction with carbohydrates and glycoproteins].

Ukrainskii biokhimicheskii zhurnal (1978), 1991
A method is developed to obtain lectin from jack fruit (Artocarpus integrifolia) seeds using an affinity chromatography on a sorbent prepared from the egg white. The minimum agglutination concentration of human erythrocytes is 80 ng/ml, the molecular weight of the preparation is about 39 kDa, it contains 1.8% of neutral hexoses and 3.1% of hexosamines.

Jackfruit (Artocarpus integrifolia) and the Agaricus mushroom lectin fit also to the so-called peanut receptor.

Behring Institute Mitteilungen, 1986
The lectin from jackfruit (Artocarpus integrifolia) reacts with the peanut-specific lectin receptor represented by the T-disaccharide, which is also part of the Thomsen (= T)-Friedenreich antigen, namely O-beta-D-galactosyl-(1----3)-N-acetyl-D-galactosamine.

Tissue staining properties of lectins from the seeds of the jack fruit (Artocarpus integrifolia) and the winged bean (Psophocarpus tetragonolobus).

Journal of experimental pathology, 1988
N-acetyl-D-galactosamine binding lectins from winged bean (Psophocarpus tetragonolobus) and jack fruit (Artocarpus integrifolia) were isolated, purified and conjugated with horse radish peroxidase and their tissue staining properties studied. Despite having an apparently common inhibiting sugar, the lectins showed differences in their staining ...
