Response of the ascorbate–glutathione cycle to re-aeration following hypoxia in lupine roots
Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, 2005The response of the enzymes and metabolites of the ascorbate-glutathione pathway to oxidative stress caused by re-aeration following hypoxia was studied in roots of hydroponically grown lupine (Lupinus luteus L. cv. Juno) seedlings. Lupine roots were deprived of oxygen by subjecting them to hypoxia for 48 and 72 h and then re-aerated for up to 4 h.

Abstract Broccoli ( Brassica oleracea L. Italica Group) senesces very rapidly at room temperature after harvest. Ethanol vapor treatment suppresses the senescence. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are closely related with postharvest quality of horticultural crops, and the ascorbate–glutathione cycle plays a crucial role in controlling the level of ROS.

Enzymatic responses of the ascorbate-glutathione cycle to drought in sorghum and sunflower plants
Plant Science, 1996To determine if responses of H2O2-scavenging enzymes to drought differ in sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench, C4) and sunflower (Helianthus annuus L., C3), we measured activities of the enzymes involved in the ascorbate-glutathione cycle (AGC), ascorbate peroxidase (AP), dehydroascorbate reductase (DR), and monodehydro-ascorbate reductase (MR), as ...

Regulation of ascorbate-glutathione cycle in peaches via nitric oxide treatment during cold storage
Scientia Horticulturae, 2019Abstract The accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) under stress conditions has great potential to damage fruit. The ascorbate-glutathione cycle is an essential metabolic pathway that eliminates hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and maintains redox equilibrium.

In plant physiology, low level of oxidative stress produces a favourable effect on the metabolism of a plant. However, when antioxydant defenses are over-passed by the action of oxidative compounds it will produce metabolic alteration that would end in cell death.

Bechmeria nivea (L.) Gaud. (ramie) seedlings subjected to a series of cadmium (Cd) concentrations (0, 1, 3 and 7 mg l(-1)) over a 10d period were investigated with regard to the uptake and distribution of Cd, its effect on membrane lipid and chlorophyll synthesis, and response of the ascorbate-glutathione cycle in both leaves and roots.

Deltamethrin is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide that can cause adverse effects on non-target organisms. This study was designed to investigate the effects of different concentrations (0.001, 0.005 and 0.01 ppm) of deltamethrin on photosynthetic pigments and the ascorbate-glutathione (ASA-GSH) cycle in Lemna minor, a freshwater macrophyte.
